Exploitation Conditions

Requires: (1) an authenticated account with at least COMMENTER-level access to any one document the attacker controls (PR:L - the PR's regression tests confirm a link-reach COMMENTER role suffices, and an anonymous user on a public EDITOR-reach document can also trigger it); and (2) prior knowledge of a valid thread UUID belonging to the victim document, which is not enumerable and must be leaked or observed (this is the AT:P/AC:H limiting factor). The attack is performed by POSTing a comment to the /documents/{attacker_document_id}/threads/{victim_thread_id}/comments/ endpoint. Limiting factors: impact is write-only (inserting comments) with no read access to the victim document's contents, and the flaw is fixed in versions after 6.0.0 by binding thread_id to the path document_id.

Impact

This is a genuine-but-low-priority authorization bypass (CWE-639, insecure direct object reference on thread UUIDs). The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N) and the vendor base score of 2.3 (Low) are mutually consistent and align with the description: exploitation is network-reachable but requires an authenticated low-privilege account (PR:L), a non-trivial precondition of knowing a valid target thread UUID (reflected as AC:H plus AT:P attack-requirements), and yields only limited integrity impact (VI:L) with no confidentiality or availability loss (VC:N/VA:N). No EPSS score, KEV listing, or SSVC decision data was provided, and no public exploit is referenced; exploitation status is therefore 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis'. The one point of friction in the data is AC:H/AT:P versus the description's framing that an attacker merely 'knows a thread UUID' - UUIDs are not enumerable but may leak to collaborators, so the high-complexity rating is defensible rather than a data conflict. Bottom line: a real but narrow write-only authorization flaw affecting a niche product, correctly scored Low; patch when convenient rather than treating as an emergency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated low-privilege user who legitimately has comment access to Document A, and who has obtained the UUID of a comment thread belonging to private Document B, sends a POST comment request routed through Document A's resource_id but naming Document B's thread. The server stores the attacker's comment in Document B's thread despite the attacker having no access to Document B. No public proof-of-concept is referenced in the provided data; limited integrity impact only (no data disclosure).

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 15, 2026

An authorization bypass in La Suite Docs through 6.0.0 allows a user with COMMENTER-level access to any document they control to insert comments into a thread belonging to a different, inaccessible document by naming their own document in the request path and supplying the victim thread's UUID. The attack requires prior knowledge of a valid thread UUID, which is not enumerable and must be leaked or observed, so although this is a genuine IDOR (CWE-639) the practical impact is limited to comment injection with no read access to the victim document's contents. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis, and the vendor has released a fix in versions after 6.0.0 (GitHub PR #2838).

RemediationAI

Upgrade La Suite Docs beyond 6.0.0 to a release that includes the fix from GitHub pull request #2838 (https://github.com/suitenumerique/docs/pull/2838), which binds comment threads to the path document by validating that the supplied thread_id belongs to the document_id in the URL; the CHANGELOG entry for the change reads '🔒️(backend) bind comment thread to the path document on creation.' This is an upstream fix available as a PR/commit, so confirm the released patched version from the vendor advisory (VulnCheck: https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/la-suite-docs-through-6.0.0-authorization-bypass-via-comment-thread-creation) before relying on a specific tag. If immediate upgrade is not possible, compensating controls include restricting document access so that only trusted users hold even COMMENTER-level roles, since a single COMMENTER-enabled document is the only foothold required; reviewing audit/logging for POSTs to /threads/{thread_id}/comments/ where the thread's owning document differs from the path document; and treating thread UUIDs as sensitive, since their secrecy is the primary exploitation barrier and any leak (logs, exports, screenshots, shared links) effectively enables the write. Note that these workarounds reduce likelihood but do not remove the flaw, and disabling comments feature-wide would be the only fully effective code-level mitigation short of patching.

Technical ContextAI · show details

La Suite Docs is a Django/Python collaborative document platform (suitenumerique:docs) that models discussions as Thread objects owned by a Document, with Comment rows nested beneath Thread. The root cause is CWE-639, Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key: the comment serializer trusted the thread_id supplied by the client context rather than verifying that the referenced thread actually belonged to the document named in the URL path. Because the POST endpoint /api/v1.0/documents/{document_id}/threads/{thread_id}/comments/ authorized the caller only against the path document, an attacker could pass their own (COMMENTER-enabled) document_id in the path together with a foreign thread_id in the path/context, and the write was accepted against the victim thread. Per the upstream fix, comment creation now filters Thread by both pk and document_id, rejecting mismatches with a 400 'This thread does not belong to this document.' and also returning 400 (rather than 500) for nonexistent thread IDs. The affected component list is given as CPE cpe:2.3:a:suitenumerique:docs:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* with EUVD-2026-102296 recording versions 0 through 6.0.0.

DescriptionCVE.org

La Suite Docs through 6.0.0 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows authenticated users to write comments into threads of documents they cannot access. Attackers who know a thread UUID can route a POST comment request through their own document's resource_id, inserting comments into another document's thread without access.
