2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Persistence The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | No special conditions - remote unauthenticated exploitation against default installations of WeGIA prior to 3.8.6, reachable via a single POST to web/html/socio/sistema/cadastro_cobranca.php. The specific trigger is supplying a quoted/string value in the codigo parameter, which defeats MariaDB's implicit numeric type conversion on the VARCHAR column and lets the value break out of the unbound WHERE codigo= clause of the UPDATE. The only meaningful limiting factor is reachability: the vulnerable endpoint must be network-accessible to the attacker; no authentication, user interaction, or non-default configuration is required. |
| Impact | All available technical signals align on high real-world severity. The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N, base 9.8) is consistent with the description: a single unauthenticated POST to cadastro_cobranca.php reaches an UPDATE statement where the codigo parameter is interpolated without binding, giving remote, low-complexity, no-interaction SQL injection (CWE-89) against the cobrancas table with High confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact. The source-code diff independently CONFIRMS the root cause and fix - extract($_REQUEST) with an unparameterized WHERE codigo=$codigo query is replaced by FILTER_VALIDATE_INT on codigo plus a mysqli_prepare/bind_param prepared statement - so this is a genuine, verifiable flaw rather than a high-CVSS-but-low-real-risk label. Countervailing signals temper urgency: EPSS is NOT provided, the CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, and no public POC is referenced, so there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation. No SSVC decision data was supplied. The dominant risk-limiting factor is deployment footprint - WeGIA is niche software - not any technical barrier, since exploitation itself is trivial once an instance is reachable. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who can reach an internet-exposed WeGIA instance older than 3.8.6 sends an unauthenticated POST to web/html/socio/sistema/cadastro_cobranca.php with a quoted SQL payload in the codigo parameter; the quoting defeats MariaDB's numeric type conversion on the VARCHAR column and injects arbitrary SQL into the UPDATE's WHERE clause. With no session required, the attacker reads or modifies database content, including user credential hashes and billing records. No public exploit code is referenced, but the attack requires only a crafted HTTP request. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026
Unauthenticated SQL injection in WeGIA versions prior to 3.8.6 allows any remote attacker to read and modify the underlying database by sending a single POST request to web/html/socio/sistema/cadastro_cobranca.php. The codigo parameter is folded into the WHERE codigo= clause of an UPDATE statement without parameter binding, and supplying a quoted string defeats MariaDB's implicit numeric conversion on the VARCHAR column, permitting arbitrary SQL execution without a session. Exposed records include user credential hashes and billing entries in the cobrancas table; the issue is rated CVSS 3.1 base 9.8 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H), and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade WeGIA to version 3.8.6 or later, which is the vendor-released patch for this flaw; the fix is visible in commit f819be361f984592c4b5a35db830495b4e2263fa and PR #1705 (https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/pull/1705), and the release is published at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/releases/tag/3.8.6. Until the upgrade can be applied, restrict network reachability to web/html/socio/sistema/cadastro_cobranca.php at the reverse proxy or firewall so that only trusted administrative networks can post to it - the trade-off is that legitimate billing workflows must originate from those same permitted ranges. A web application firewall rule rejecting POST bodies where codigo contains quote characters or non-integer tokens provides partial coverage but can be bypassed by encoding tricks, so it should not be treated as a substitute for patching. If the socio billing module is not in active use, disabling or removing cadastro_cobranca.php eliminates the exposure entirely at the cost of losing that functionality. Because the endpoint permits both reads and writes, any period of pre-patch exposure should be followed by rotating application administrative credentials and reviewing the cobrancas and user credential tables for unauthorized modification; credential hashes stored in the database should be considered compromised if the window of exposure is unknown.

Technical ContextAI · show details
WeGIA is a PHP web application for charitable institutions that uses MySQL/MariaDB through the mysqli extension. The vulnerable handler begins with extract($_REQUEST), which creates local variables from attacker-controlled request keys, and then interpolates those values directly into SQL. In the pre-3.8.6 code the billing update was assembled as an unparameterized string: UPDATE cobrancas SET status = '$status', valor_pago = $valor_pago, linha_digitavel='$linha_digitavel' WHERE codigo=$codigo. Because the codigo column is a VARCHAR, MariaDB would normally coerce a bare numeric literal, but a quoted string supplied by the attacker becomes part of the SQL syntax rather than a value, breaking out of the unbound comparison. Sibling fields were partially defended with mysqli_real_escape_string and addslashes, but cursor ordering in the original code left codigo unescaped. The root cause is CWE-89, improper neutralization of special elements used in an SQL command, and the upstream fix (commit f819be361f984592c4b5a35db830495b4e2263fa, PR #1705) removes extract(), explicitly reads $_POST keys, validates codigo with FILTER_VALIDATE_INT and valor/valor_pago with FILTER_VALIDATE_FLOAT, and replaces the concatenated UPDATE with a mysqli_prepare/mysqli_stmt_bind_param prepared statement using the "sdsi" type signature. No CPE data was supplied in the intelligence feed, so affected platforms must be identified from the vendor release line rather than from normalized CPE strings.

2DescriptionCVE.org
WeGIA is a web manager for charitable institutions. Prior to 3.8.6, unauthenticated POST requests to web/html/socio/sistema/cadastro_cobranca.php can place a quoted SQL expression in the codigo parameter, which extract($_REQUEST) passes into the WHERE codigo= clause of an UPDATE statement without validation or parameter binding. Quoting the value bypasses MariaDB type conversion for the VARCHAR column and permits arbitrary SQL execution without a session. An attacker can read or modify database content, including user credential hashes and billing records in the cobrancas table. This issue is fixed in version 3.8.6.

Executive ViewAI
Every WeGIA deployment that has not yet moved to version 3.8.6 is exposed to full database compromise through a single unauthenticated HTTP request to the billing-registration endpoint, allowing an outside party to read and rewrite stored user credential hashes and billing records. Because no authentication or user interaction is required and no vendor patch is currently available, any reachable instance is a viable target for account takeover and fraudulent or destructive alteration of financial and beneficiary data. Leadership should treat this as a containment problem requiring immediate network and application-layer restrictions rather than a routine upgrade cycle.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis; the affected-version range is stated as prior to 3.8.6, so confirm with the vendor whether a fixed build is obtainable. Interim mitigations: block or disable access to web/html/socio/sistema/cadastro_cobranca.php, deploy WAF/virtual-patching rules for SQL injection in the codigo parameter, place instances behind authenticated access only, segment the application from other internal networks, run the WeGIA database account with least privilege, rotate database and application credentials, and monitor for anomalous UPDATE activity and quoted-string input to that endpoint.
