Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an authenticated account on the Agora Project instance with the ability to submit a poll-response attachment, and the attacker must craft a filename containing HTML/script markup that evades the paramFilter sanitization applied to $_FILES. The payload only fires when another user subsequently views a page that renders the stored filename, such as the dashboard controller (CtrlDashboard), so victim interaction (viewing the page) is mandatory. Limiting factors: attacker must already be a legitimate (if low-privileged) user, impact is confined to the victim's browser rather than the server, and the deployment must host multiple users for the stored payload to reach a meaningful victim; affects versions before 26.10.0 only.

Impact

This is a medium-severity stored XSS (CVSS 4.0 base 5.1, CWE-79) that should be treated as a moderate, not urgent, priority. The CVSS 4.0 vector tells a consistent and self-limiting story: network attack vector (AV:N) and low complexity (AC:L), but exploitation requires authenticated access (PR:L - the attacker must be a legitimate logged-in user able to submit a poll-response attachment) and passive victim interaction (UI:P - a user must view the affected dashboard page). Impact is confined to the victim's browser session: there is no direct impact on the vulnerable system itself (VC:N/VI:N/VA:N) and only low confidentiality and integrity impact on the subsequent system (SC:L/SI:L), consistent with script execution in another user's browser. No active-exploitation or exploit-availability signals are present: this CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, no POC was provided in the intelligence, and no EPSS score was supplied, so there is no evidence of widespread or opportunistic exploitation. The signals do not conflict - a comparatively low CVSS score, no KEV, and no known POC all point the same direction: a real but bounded issue most relevant to multi-user Agora Project deployments where untrusted or semi-trusted users can upload content. EPSS was not provided and cannot be used to refine likelihood.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated low-privileged user of an Agora Project collaboration instance uploads a poll-response attachment whose filename contains HTML/script markup crafted to bypass the paramFilter sanitization applied to $_FILES. The malicious filename is stored and later rendered by components such as the dashboard controller (CtrlDashboard), so that when another user - potentially an administrator - views the affected page, the script executes in their browser, enabling session theft or actions in their context. No public exploit code was identified in the provided intelligence.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026

Stored cross-site scripting in Omnispace Agora Project before 26.10.0 allows authenticated users to inject persistent HTML/script markup through the filename of a poll-response attachment, which is later rendered in application pages such as the dashboard controller (CtrlDashboard) and executes in the browser of any user who views the affected content. The vulnerable flow applies paramFilter sanitization to request parameters but that filtering does not cover the $_FILES upload array, so a specially crafted filename survives storage and is emitted unsanitized on render. Per the assessed CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N), exploitation requires a legitimate low-privileged account plus victim interaction, and impact is confined to the victim's browser session rather than the server; this is a medium-severity, moderate-priority issue, with no public exploit identified at time of analysis and a vendor patch available (26.10.0).

RemediationAI

Upgrade to Agora Project 26.10.0 or later - the vendor release 26.10 (https://github.com/xech/agora-project/releases/tag/26.10) is the authoritative fix and the patch is listed as available from the vendor; see also https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/omnispace-agora-project-stored-xss-via-poll-response-attachment-filename and https://www.agora-project.net/ for advisory details. If immediate upgrade is not possible, apply compensating controls: disable or restrict the poll-response attachment upload capability to trusted administrators (trade-off: removes a collaborative feature for regular users), enforce a strict server-side allowlist on uploaded filenames - e.g. reject any filename containing angle brackets, quotes, or script-bearing characters and rename uploads to opaque generated identifiers before storage (trade-off: original filenames are lost, and any code path that still trusts user-supplied names must also be fixed) - and add output-encoding/HTML-escaping where filenames are rendered, particularly in CtrlDashboard. Deploying a Content-Security-Policy that blocks inline and third-party script execution reduces payload impact in victims' browsers (trade-off: may break legitimate front-end scripts and requires testing), and a WAF rule blocking markup in multipart filename fields can provide short-term coverage (trade-off: evasion is possible and WAF rules are not a substitute for the patch). Note that because this is stored XSS, cleaning the fix requires both the code upgrade and removal of any malicious attachment filenames already persisted by prior exploitation attempts.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The root cause is CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation / cross-site scripting) arising from an input-filtering gap in a PHP web application. Agora Project sanitizes incoming request data (including the $_POST/superglobal surface) via a paramFilter routine, but the parallel $_FILES superglobal that carries uploaded attachment data is not subjected to the same filtering. Because uploaded filenames are treated as trusted metadata, an attacker-controlled filename containing HTML or script markup is persisted in storage and subsequently re-emitted into HTML pages - the advisory specifically names components such as the dashboard controller (CtrlDashboard) as rendering sinks. This is a stored (persistent) rather than reflected XSS: the payload is written to the database/filesystem and fires for every viewer of the affected page, not just the uploader. The EUVD record lists the affected range as Agora Project 0 through versions below 26.10.0, confirming that all pre-26.10.0 releases of the platform's poll/attachment functionality are in scope. The assessed CVSS 3.1 vector confirms network reachability with low privileges and required user interaction, with scope change and low confidentiality/integrity impact consistent with browser-side script execution rather than server compromise.

DescriptionCVE.org

Omnispace Agora Project before 26.10.0 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows authenticated attackers to inject HTML/script markup by uploading a poll-response attachment with a malicious filename that bypasses the paramFilter sanitization applied to $_FILES. Attackers can submit a crafted filename that is stored and later rendered in components such as the dashboard controller (CtrlDashboard), executing arbitrary script in the browsers of users who view the affected page.
