MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated MISP user account that already holds at least read access to a target event (PR:L); no user interaction or special client is needed beyond viewing the event in the Overmind event view, which automatically enriches the event with its most recent attached report. Exploitation is meaningful only when a report attached to that event has a distribution/ACL more restrictive than the parent event (so the user is not otherwise entitled to it), or when a report has been soft-deleted (administratively removed) - the flawed query filters on event_id only and omits both the report ACL and the deleted=0 condition. Limiting factors: attacker must be a legitimate authenticated, event-authorized user, and there must exist reports whose distribution is stricter than the event's; affects MISP versions before 2.5.47. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but low-severity information-disclosure issue, not a high-priority emergency. All signals align on limited impact: the vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N) scores 5.3 with confidentiality-only, low-magnitude impact and no integrity or availability effect. Exploitation requires an authenticated user (PR:L) who already has read access to the affected event, so this is an authorization/access-control failure (CWE-862) - an insider or over-scoped account can see reports that the report-level distribution policy should have hidden, plus soft-deleted reports. There is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC provided; per input signals this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The tag 'Authentication Bypass' is misleading: nothing authenticates as another user - this is a missing report-level ACL check for already-authenticated users, so treat it as broken access control/IDOR. The fix is confirmed available (vendor commit 6932aace8, EUVD affected range MISP 0 <2.5.47). Bottom line: real bug worth patching in trust-sensitive threat-sharing deployments, but low real-world urgency absent exploitation signals. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated MISP user with only read access to an event opens the Overmind event view, which auto-enriches the event with its most recent attached report for preview. Because the enrichment query looks up the report by event ID alone and ignores the report's own (stricter) distribution setting and its soft-deleted flag, the user is shown threat-intelligence report content that the report's distribution policy explicitly excluded them from - or that an administrator had already removed. No public exploit code is referenced. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 22, 2026
Information disclosure in MISP versions before 2.5.47 lets an authenticated user who holds at least read access to an event view the most recent report attached to that event even when the report's own distribution/ACL setting is more restrictive than the parent event's - or when the report has been soft-deleted. The Overmind event view automatically enriches an event with its latest attached report, and the enrichment query filtered only on the event ID, omitting the report ACL conditions and the deleted flag, so a legitimately authorized but not report-authorized user can read threat-intelligence content they should not see. Exploitation requires an authenticated MISP account with existing read access to the target event (CVSS PR:L), no user interaction beyond opening the Overmind view, and is meaningful only where a more-restricted or soft-deleted report actually exists; the issue is a low-severity confidentiality leak rather than an emergency, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to MISP 2.5.47 or later, which is the fixed version per the EUVD affected range; the upstream fix is commit 6932aace8 (https://github.com/MISP/MISP/commit/6932aace8), which changes __enrichEvent() in app/Controller/EventsController.php to build report conditions with EventReport::buildACLConditions($user) and to add EventReport.event_id plus EventReport.deleted = 0, so the enrichment path now enforces the same report ACL as the reports tab. If immediate upgrade is not possible, compensating controls include temporarily disabling or removing the Overmind "most recent report" preview enrichment for untrusted user populations (trade-off: the Overmind event view loses its report preview convenience until patched), tightening who holds read access to events that carry restricted or soft-deleted reports (trade-off: reduced analyst collaboration and sharing coverage), or moving sensitive reports onto separate events whose distribution matches the report's sensitivity (trade-off: operational overhead in event/report organisation and possible loss of context linkage). Permanently purging soft-deleted reports at the database level reduces the deleted-report exposure vector but is destructive and removes any forensic/audit record, so it should only follow a reviewed retention decision. Because exploitation requires an authenticated, event-authorized user, monitoring MISP access logs for Overmind event views by users outside a report's intended distribution can help detect attempted abuse, and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.

Technical ContextAI · show details
MISP (Malware Information Sharing Platform) is an open-source threat-intelligence sharing platform in which events (the unit of intelligence sharing) can have multiple EventReport objects attached. Critically, each report carries its own independent distribution setting that can be narrower than the parent event's distribution - for example organisation-only, sharing-group, or community restrictions - and reports can be soft-deleted (administratively removed but retained in the database with a deleted flag). The Overmind event view calls the private enrichment routine __enrichEvent() in app/Controller/EventsController.php, which for preview purposes fetches the most recent report linked to the event. That fetch used only the condition EventReport.event_id = <event id>, with no call to EventReport::buildACLConditions($user) and no EventReport.deleted = 0 predicate, so the lookup bypassed the same authorization logic the reports tab uses. This is a classic CWE-862 Missing Authorization root cause: an object-level access-control check was simply not applied on one code path, even though the correct ACL builder existed and was already used elsewhere in the application. The classification of this defect as an authentication-bypass tag is loose terminology; the assessment is information disclosure (C:L, I:N, A:N, S:U) rather than privilege escalation or code execution. Affected product per CPE is cpe:2.3:a:misp:misp:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, i.e. all MISP releases before the fixed version, with EUVD recording the affected range as MISP 0 to <2.5.47.

DescriptionCVE.org
In MISP, the Overmind event view enriches an event with its most recent attached report for preview purposes. The enrichment logic fetched the report using only the event ID as the lookup condition, without applying the report's own distribution/ACL constraints. Because MISP reports carry an independent distribution setting that can be more restrictive than the parent event's distribution, an authenticated user who had read access to the event could retrieve and view a report whose distribution explicitly excluded that user. Additionally, the query did not filter out soft-deleted reports, allowing retrieval of reports that had been administratively removed.
The result is an unauthorized disclosure of threat-intelligence report content to users who should not have access under the report's own access-control policy.
The vulnerability requires an authenticated MISP user with at least read access to the affected event.
