Exploitation Conditions

No authentication, authorization, or user interaction is required to reach either the write or the redirect behavior - the plugin fails to require auth before writing attacker-supplied data to one of its options, and a separate unauthenticated request redirects the visitor to a URI built from that stored value. Exploitation therefore works against default configurations of the App Builder WordPress plugin at any version before 5.7.1, with no special feature toggle named in the advisory. The practical limiting factor is impact scope, not access: the flaw yields only an attacker-controlled redirect (integrity-only), so real-world harm depends on a victim actually visiting the malicious redirect link (social-engineering/phishing delivery), and sites already updated to 5.7.1 or later are not affected.

Impact

All signals point to a moderate, not critical, issue. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, base 5.3 MEDIUM) describes fully remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity exploitation with no user interaction, but the impact is deliberately narrow: integrity-only (I:L) with no confidentiality (C:N) and no availability (A:N) effect. This is consistent with a stored open-redirect/option-tampering flaw rather than a code-execution or data-exposure bug. On the threat side, a public exploit exists (POC=YES, reported by WPScan), but the CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, so per the precision rules this is 'publicly available exploit code exists' - distinct from active exploitation. No EPSS probability was supplied, so automated-exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified from the input and should not be assumed. There is no SSVC decision data provided. Net: the easy, pre-auth reachability raises nuisance/abuse value (phishing, redirect-based token or OAuth abuse, reputation/SEO damage), but the integrity-only impact caps real-world severity well below a system-compromise priority. One conflict to flag: the input Tag 'Information Disclosure' is inconsistent with the CVSS confidentiality metric C:N - the described behavior is an open redirect, not information disclosure, so do not treat this as a data-leak bug on the strength of that tag.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An unauthenticated attacker sends a request that stores a malicious URI into one of the App Builder plugin's options, then lures a victim to the plugin's separate unauthenticated redirect endpoint, whose browser is sent to the attacker-controlled destination. Because a POC is publicly available from WPScan and no authentication, privileges, or complex conditions are required (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N), this is most plausibly weaponized for phishing or redirect-based credential/OAuth abuse rather than direct server compromise.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 19, 2026

The App Builder WordPress plugin before 5.7.1 writes attacker-supplied data into one of its options without any authentication or authorization check, and a second unauthenticated request then redirects the visitor's browser to a URI built from that stored value. The result is an unauthenticated, persistent open redirect (CVSS 5.3, integrity-only) that remote attackers can use to bounce victims to attacker-chosen destinations, typically as a phishing delivery step. Publicly available exploit code exists, but the real-world impact is bounded because a victim must actually follow the crafted link; sites running 5.7.1 or later are not affected.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: update App Builder to version 5.7.1 or later, applied through the WordPress plugin dashboard or with WP-CLI (wp plugin update app-builder), and verify the installed version afterwards; the WPScan advisory at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/26ac49f1-657b-49ab-937b-1ceabde1e891/ is the authoritative reference for the fix. If updating cannot be done immediately, deactivate and remove the plugin until patching is possible - this eliminates the exposure entirely but also removes page-builder functionality from the site. An intermediate compensating control is a WAF or reverse-proxy rule that blocks unauthenticated requests to the plugin's option-writing and redirect endpoints; the trade-off is that rule tuning is required and legitimate front-end builder behavior may break if the endpoints are also used by normal visitors. Because the stored value persists, also review the plugin's option rows for unexpected URLs after any suspected exposure and clear them, and monitor outbound redirects from the site as a detection signal. Note that the underlying redirect sink is only exploitable through social engineering (a victim must follow a crafted link), so user awareness around unexpected redirects adds defense in depth but does not substitute for patching.

Technical ContextAI · show details

App Builder is a WordPress page-builder plugin whose administrative routines store configuration in the WordPress options table (the update_option/get_option pattern). The root-cause class is a missing authentication and capability check on a state-changing function: the handler that writes the plugin option can be reached by an unauthenticated request, so the usual current_user_can() capability gate and nonce verification are effectively absent for that path. A second, separately reachable unauthenticated endpoint reads the stored option and issues a browser redirect (wp_redirect/header Location) to a URI constructed from it without validating the destination against an allowlist or restricting it to same-site paths - the classic unvalidated-redirect sink. Chaining the two turns a low-privilege option write into a persistent redirect primitive, which is more dangerous than a reflected redirect because the payload survives in the database until overwritten. The supplied CPE string (cpe:2.3:a:unknown:app_builder) shows the vendor field is unregistered in the CPE dictionary, so CPE-based scanning will not reliably fingerprint affected installs; detection should rely on plugin version enumeration instead.
