Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated session able to reach the User Management add_user function at /drug_recommender/Admin/add_user (PR:L, an administrative feature), and requires passive user interaction (UI:P) - a victim must subsequently view the page where the injected txtname/txtemail/txtpassword value is rendered for the script to fire. Impact is limited to integrity within the browser context (VI:L; no confidentiality or availability impact). Limiting factors: the target is a niche SourceCodester application with essentially no production deployment, exploitation needs prior authentication, and the script only executes when another user renders the stored value.

Impact

This is a low-real-risk finding despite the network attack vector. The vendor CVSS 4.0 base score is 5.1 (medium), and the vector CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:P tells a modest story: exploitation requires an authenticated account (PR:L) and passive user interaction (UI:P - a victim must view the injected content), with impact limited to integrity only (VI:L) and no confidentiality or availability effect. The affected code path is /drug_recommender/Admin/add_user in the User Management component, an administrative feature, which further constrains who can reach the injection point. Exploitation status is 'publicly available exploit code exists' (a GitHub POC by KaranParelkar is referenced and VulDB flags E:P/'Proof-of-Concept'), but there is NO EPSS score, NO CISA KEV listing, and NO evidence of active exploitation - POC availability must not be conflated with in-the-wild use. The signals are internally consistent (network XSS, authenticated, low integrity impact), so no contradiction to flag; the primary caveat is that this is a SourceCodester hobbyist/tutorial application with negligible production footprint, making it a CVE-mill entry rather than a genuine defensive priority.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated low-privileged user (or an admin with a foothold) submits the add_user form with a malicious script payload in the txtname, txtemail, or txtpassword parameters. The payload is stored and later rendered without proper output encoding, so when another user or administrator views the affected page in the User Management interface, the script executes in their browser session. A public proof-of-concept for this exact endpoint is available on GitHub.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 20, 2026

Stored cross-site scripting in SourceCodester Drug Recommendation System 1.0 allows an authenticated user with access to the User Management add_user function to inject malicious script via the txtname, txtemail, or txtpassword parameters, which then executes in the browser of any user who views the affected page. Publicly available exploit code exists, though exploitation requires authentication (PR:L per the assessed CVSS 3.1 vector) and victim interaction (UI:P), and the target is a niche application with essentially no production deployment, making the real-world risk low. The assessed impact is limited to browser-context integrity (VI:L) with no confidentiality or availability effect.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch is identified in the available data for CVE-2026-94033; the VulDB advisory (https://vuldb.com/vuln/407961) and sourcecodester.com provide no specific fix version. As a compensating control, restrict access to the /drug_recommender/Admin/add_user administrative function to trusted networks or authenticated administrators only, since the attacker must already be authenticated (PR:L) to reach it. Apply input validation and context-aware output encoding to the txtname, txtemail, and txtpassword fields and any page that renders those stored values - a code-level change that eliminates the XSS but may require custom development. A web application firewall with XSS filtering can reduce exploitation attempts but is bypassable and should not be the sole defense. Given the niche nature of the application and the public exploit (https://github.com/KaranParelkar/Drug_recommendation_system/blob/main/xss/add_user/Readme.md), decommissioning the software if it is not actively required is a strong risk-reduction step.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The vulnerability is a CWE-79 cross-site scripting flaw in the User Management component of the SourceCodester Drug Recommendation System, specifically the /drug_recommender/Admin/add_user endpoint. SourceCodester applications are typically PHP/MySQL web applications; the add_user form accepts user-supplied data in txtname, txtemail, and txtpassword and stores it without adequate sanitization or output encoding, so when the stored values are later rendered on a page, arbitrary JavaScript can execute in the victim browser. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:P) and the independent reassessment (CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) both indicate that an attacker must first authenticate to reach the administrative function and that a victim must interact with the crafted content. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:sourcecodester:drug_recommendation_system:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* identifies the affected product family, and the exploit reference at GitHub Readme.md confirms proof-of-concept code is publicly available.
