Unauthenticated network reach (PR:N/AV:N) but AC:H because it requires open registration enabled plus winning a race to claim the username; only Author-level access yields limited C/I/A.

The Optima Express IDX plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Privilege Escalation in all versions up to, and including, 8.7.5. This is due to the provisionBlogCredentials() function in iHomefinderAdmin.php being reachable via the wp_ajax_nopriv_ihf_clear_cache AJAX action - through the call chain iHomefinderAjaxHandler::clearCache() → activateAuthenticationToken() → getAuthenticationInfo() → provisionBlogCredentials() - with no capability check, nonce verification, or ownership validation, and the function unconditionally calling $user->set_role('author') on whichever WordPress account matches the hard-coded login optima-express via get_user_by('login', 'optima-express'). This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to escalate a pre-registered optima-express account to the Author role, gaining publish_posts, upload_files, and edit_published_posts capabilities, including access to the plugin's own /wp-json/optima-express/v1/blog-post REST endpoint. Exploitation requires open user registration to be enabled on the target site, and the attacker must register the optima-express username before the plugin has had the opportunity to provision that login for its own integration account.

AnalysisAI
Unauthenticated privilege escalation in the Optima Express IDX plugin for WordPress (all versions up to and including 8.7.5) allows a remote attacker to take control of the plugin's hard-coded optima-express integration account and force it to the Author role, gaining publish_posts, upload_files and edit_published_posts capabilities, including access to the plugin's own /wp-json/optima-express/v1/blog-post REST endpoint. The exploit path is an AJAX action registered with wp_ajax_nopriv_ihf_clear_cache that reaches provisionBlogCredentials() with no capability check, nonce verification or ownership validation, but it is only reachable when two conditions are met: open user registration must be enabled on the target site (a non-default WordPress setting), and the attacker must claim the optima-express username before the plugin provisions that login for its own integration account - a race that the independent assessment captures with an AC:H adjusted vector despite the published AC:L. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Two concrete prerequisites both stated in the CVE: (1) WordPress open user registration must be enabled (Settings → Membership 'Anyone can register' - off by default), and (2) the attacker must register the exact username `optima-express` BEFORE the plugin provisions that login for its integration account, i.e. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N, base 7.3 HIGH) presents this as a trivially exploitable unauthenticated network privilege-escalation, but the vector understates the real preconditions the description spells out: exploitation requires (1) open user registration enabled on the target - a non-default WordPress setting - and (2) the attacker to have pre-registered the hard-coded `optima-express` username BEFORE the plugin provisions that account for its own integration. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |

| Remediation | Upstream fix available (PR/commit); released patched version not independently confirmed - the reference set includes a Trac changeset (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&old=3706448%40optima-express&new=3706448%40optima-express), so administrators should update Optima Express IDX to the first release carrying that changeset and verify it is later than 8.7.5, using the vendor advisory at https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/8ba63df6-ae71-4320-bb82-87d6e17cc47d?source=cve as the tracking record. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every WordPress instance running the Optima Express IDX plugin at version 8.7.5 or earlier, confirm whether open user registration is enabled on each, and where it is not required for business purposes disable it immediately via Settings > General or a filter; simultaneously check the users list for any account named 'optima-express' and audit its role and recent posts/uploads, and take affected sites offline or deploy a WAF rule blocking requests to the wp_ajax_nopriv_ihf_clear_cache action and the /wp-json/optima-express/v1/blog-post REST endpoint. …
