2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution

The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up.

Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires ALL of the following: (1) an authenticated WordPress account with 'custom-level' access or higher on the target site (PR:L); (2) the 'Force Bootstrap' miscellaneous setting (acadp_misc_settings['force_bootstrap']) must be explicitly enabled - non-default; and (3) the 'ACADP Listing Address' widget must be placed in a sidebar that is displayed on single listing pages - non-default. The payload is injected via the 'phone' parameter of a listing. The combined requirement of a privileged account plus two operator-chosen, non-default configuration settings substantially limits real-world exploitability; sites running default Advanced Classifieds & Directory Pro configurations are not affected.

Impact

This is a genuinely moderate-to-low priority issue despite its CVSS 6.4 (Medium) rating, and the raw score overstates real-world risk. The input CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) treats exploitation as low-complexity, but the description explicitly states the flaw is ONLY exploitable when two non-default conditions are both met: the 'Force Bootstrap' misc setting (acadp_misc_settings['force_bootstrap']) is enabled AND the 'ACADP Listing Address' widget is placed on a sidebar shown on single listing pages. That contradicts the AC:L in the supplied vector - realistic attack complexity is High, which is why my independent assessment lowers the score. Exploitation also requires an authenticated account at 'custom-level access and above' (consistent with PR:L), not an anonymous attacker. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC was provided; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The scope change (S:C) and stored nature mean a successful inject executes in the browsers of other users (including potentially admins) viewing the listing page, which is the main reason this is not purely trivial. Net: a real but conditional stored XSS requiring an authenticated role plus two non-default configuration choices - patch in normal cycles rather than as an emergency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who already holds a 'custom-level' or higher WordPress account on a vulnerable site submits a classified listing with a malicious script payload in the 'phone' field, which is stored without sanitization and rendered without escaping. On a site where 'Force Bootstrap' is enabled and the 'ACADP Listing Address' widget sits in a sidebar on single listing pages, the script then executes in the browser of any visitor or administrator who views that listing. No public exploit code was identified, and the attack only works against this specific non-default configuration.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 10, 2026

Stored cross-site scripting in the Advanced Classifieds & Directory Pro WordPress plugin (versions up to and including 3.4.4) allows an authenticated attacker holding a 'custom-level' account or higher to inject arbitrary JavaScript through the 'phone' parameter of a listing, which then executes for any user viewing the poisoned page. Exploitation is gated behind two non-default operator choices: the 'Force Bootstrap' miscellaneous setting must be enabled and the 'ACADP Listing Address' widget must be placed in a sidebar rendered on single listing pages, so default-configured sites are not exposed. No public exploit code or confirmed in-the-wild exploitation (CISA KEV) was identified at time of analysis, and the reported CVSS 6.4 score is softened by our reassessment to AC:H given the stacked prerequisite chain.

RemediationAI

Upstream fix available (PR/commit); released patched version not independently confirmed - the corrective change is published as changeset 3728695 (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3728695/advanced-classifieds-and-directory-pro/trunk/includes/helpers/html.php), which adds proper sanitization/escaping for the 'phone' listing field, so administrators should take the vendor's next plugin release once it is tagged and, in the interim, can manually back-port or verify the changeset's escaping logic in includes/helpers/html.php. Because neither exploitation prerequisite is a default, two high-value compensating controls are available: set the 'Force Bootstrap' miscellaneous setting (acadp_misc_settings['force_bootstrap']) to disabled, which removes the render path needed for the injected script to execute but will change front-end Bootstrap styling and layout, and remove the 'ACADP Listing Address' widget from any sidebar rendered on single listing pages, which eliminates the sink entirely with only the loss of address display on those pages. Additionally, audit and tighten the accounts that hold 'custom-level' access or above, since the vector requires that privilege level, and deploy a WAF rule filtering script payloads in the 'phone' listing parameter; note that WAF-only mitigation is bypassable and should not substitute for the code fix or the configuration changes above.

Technical ContextAI · show details

This is a classic CWE-79 stored (persistent) cross-site scripting defect in a WordPress plugin. The 'phone' field of a classified listing is written into the database without adequate input sanitization, and later rendered into listing output without context-appropriate output escaping - the referenced code paths are includes/helpers/html.php (line ~404) and public/user.php (line ~887) in tag 3.4.4, with the fix landing in changeset 3728695 against trunk/includes/helpers/html.php. The CVSS vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N yields 6.4 and reflects a network-reachable, low-privilege authenticated vector that crosses a trust boundary (scope change from the plugin context into the victim browser), but limited confidentiality/integrity impact and no availability impact. Our independent assessment raises the attack complexity to AC:H because successful execution requires both the site owner to have explicitly enabled acadp_misc_settings['force_bootstrap'] (which alters front-end asset/markup loading, the Bootstrap dependency being what makes the injected script render and execute in the affected pages) and the 'ACADP Listing Address' widget to be mounted on a sidebar shown on single listing pages - neither condition is the plugin default. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:pluginsware:advanced_classifieds_&_directory_pro:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms every released version of the plugin is nominally in scope, but the practical attack surface is limited to the narrow configuration subset described.

DescriptionCVE.org

The Advanced Classifieds & Directory Pro plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'phone' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.4.4 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with custom-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This vulnerability is only exploitable on sites where the 'Force Bootstrap' miscellaneous setting (acadp_misc_settings['force_bootstrap']) is enabled and the 'ACADP Listing Address' widget is placed on a sidebar displayed on single listing pages; both conditions are non-default.
