Network-reachable but requires low-priv auth (PR:L) plus a co-occurring admin PHPSESSID (AC:H); yields full read/write file access so C:H/I:H, no availability impact (A:N).

3DescriptionCVE.org
FileRise before version 3.28.0 contains a privilege escalation vulnerability that allows authenticated low-privilege attackers to gain unauthorized read and write access by exploiting improper session isolation between the WebDAV interface and the web application session context. Attackers can combine valid Basic-Auth credentials with an active admin PHPSESSID cookie to bypass authorization boundaries, as the WebDAV layer incorrectly inherits elevated privileges from an ambient web session rather than enforcing independent stateless authentication per RFC 4918.
AnalysisAI
Authenticated low-privilege users of FileRise before version 3.28.0 can obtain unauthorized read and write access at administrator level through the WebDAV interface by supplying valid Basic-Auth credentials alongside an active administrator PHPSESSID cookie, because the WebDAV layer inherits the elevated privileges of the ambient web session rather than authenticating each request independently as RFC 4918 requires. Exploitation is not trivial and depends on a co-occurring privileged session: the attacker must already hold valid low-privilege credentials (PR:L) and obtain the session cookie of a live administrator session, which is the basis for the high attack complexity (AC:H) in the CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:H/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N, base 7.6) and the assessed CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N); availability is unaffected. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires (1) valid low-privilege Basic-Auth credentials to the FileRise WebDAV interface, and (2) an active administrator web-application session whose PHPSESSID cookie the attacker can supply alongside those credentials. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:H/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N, base 7.6) describes a network-reachable privilege escalation requiring low-privilege authentication (PR:L) and carrying elevated attack complexity (AC:H). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade to FileRise 3.28.0 (release tag https://github.com/error311/FileRise/releases/tag/v3.28.0, SHA-256 of FileRise-v3.28.0.zip: 30ee220209d5d46e54de1b04b67fee548d9ee911c86a9c0e1edcc655eced4d7f), which the vendor describes as refining WebDAV request handling for consistency across client configurations; because the public notes do not explicitly name the security fix, verify after upgrading that WebDAV requests carrying a PHPSESSID no longer resolve to that session's privileges. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every FileRise deployment, record the exact running version, and confirm which instances expose the WebDAV interface to untrusted networks; begin upgrading internet-facing systems to FileRise 3.28.0 (the vendor-released fix) immediately, and where the upgrade cannot be completed same-day, block or restrict the WebDAV endpoint at the reverse proxy, WAF, or load balancer and force short administrator session timeouts. …
