MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the victim click or be redirected to a specifically crafted URL targeting the confirmLivePassword.php endpoint on an AVideo instance accessible over the network. No authentication, special privileges, or non-default configuration is required on the attacker's side. The sole limiting factor is passive victim interaction (UI:P in CVSS 4.0): the victim must load the malicious URL in a browser - a condition typically satisfied via phishing, open redirect chains, or embedded links. The vulnerability is present in any AVideo deployment exposing this PHP file over HTTP or HTTPS. Exploitation is constrained to the victim's browser session and the AVideo site origin; server-side code execution is not possible via this vector. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector scores this at 5.3 (Medium), capturing the core trade-off: zero authentication or special configuration required (PR:N, AC:L), but victim interaction is mandatory (UI:P), and the confidentiality and integrity impacts are limited (VC:L/VI:L). This is a realistic, low-friction social-engineering phishing vector - a single crafted URL delivered via email, messaging, or a redirect chain suffices. No CISA KEV listing exists and no POC code is explicitly referenced in the available intelligence, though the GitHub security advisory and VulnCheck report provide sufficient detail for reproduction by a skilled attacker. EPSS data is absent from the input. Reflected XSS on a login-adjacent page (confirmLivePassword.php) is particularly sensitive because victims landing there may already be authenticated or in the process of authenticating, making session theft via document.cookie a realistic secondary impact if the session cookie is not HttpOnly. The SC:L/SI:L in the 4.0 vector acknowledges downstream trust-chain risk. This is a genuine medium-priority remediation item for any publicly exposed AVideo instance. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker sends a phishing link to an AVideo user - for example, a URL to confirmLivePassword.php with a crafted path segment containing a double-quote followed by an injected event handler. When the victim loads the page, the unencoded REQUEST_URI lands in the form action attribute, the quote breaks attribute context, and the event handler fires executing attacker-controlled JavaScript in the victim's browser. No public POC code is referenced in the available data, though the advisory description provides sufficient technical detail for reproduction. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 11, 2026
Reflected XSS in WWBN AVideo's confirmLivePassword.php allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in a victim's browser by tricking them into visiting a crafted URL. The vulnerability arises because the PHP script copies REQUEST_URI verbatim into an HTML form action attribute - a quote character in the URL path breaks attribute context and enables injection of arbitrary event handlers executing within the site's origin. No public exploit code or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis, but the CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P) confirms low-complexity unauthenticated exploitation gated only on passive victim interaction.
RemediationAI
The primary fix is to upgrade AVideo to a commit beyond c3edcc274c389816d434acadac07ee78eaf330c1 that addresses the REQUEST_URI encoding issue - consult the GitHub advisory at https://github.com/WWBN/AVideo/security/advisories/GHSA-fp9p-hrc9-8rr7 for the exact remediated commit or release. The correct code-level fix is to HTML-encode REQUEST_URI before writing it into the form action attribute (e.g., using PHP's htmlspecialchars() with ENT_QUOTES). As a compensating control prior to patching, a WAF rule blocking requests where the URI path or query string contains unencoded quote characters destined for the confirmLivePassword.php endpoint will reduce exploitability with minimal side effects on legitimate users. Additionally, ensure session cookies carry the HttpOnly flag to limit the impact of any successful XSS to DOM-level attacks rather than direct cookie theft.

AVideo (cpe:2.3:a:wwbn:avideo:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is an open-source PHP video streaming and management platform maintained by WWBN. The root cause (CWE-79) is missing output encoding: confirmLivePassword.php reads the PHP superglobal $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] - which reflects the full URL path and query string exactly as sent by the browser - and writes it into the HTML value of a form's action attribute without HTML entity encoding. An attacker-controlled single or double quote in the URL terminates the attribute value early, allowing the remainder of the URL to be parsed as new HTML attributes or tags, including event handlers such as onmouseover or onfocus. Because the script is served from the target origin, any JavaScript injected via this mechanism runs in the first-party context, giving it access to cookies (subject to HttpOnly), localStorage, the DOM, and the ability to make credentialed same-origin requests.

DescriptionCVE.org
WWBN AVideo through commit c3edcc274c389816d434acadac07ee78eaf330c1 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in confirmLivePassword.php that copies REQUEST_URI into a form action attribute without encoding. Attackers can craft a malicious URL with a quote character to break out of the action attribute and inject event handlers that execute in the victim's browser within the site origin.
