| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N, score 5.3) correctly captures the key constraints: network-accessible with no complexity, no privilege required, but dependent on victim interaction (UI:P). Confidentiality and integrity impact are rated low at the vulnerable-system level, with slight subsequent-system spillover. The moderate score understates the practical risk if an administrator is targeted, since JavaScript execution under the AVideo origin could steal admin session cookies or silently trigger privileged in-application actions - effectively turning a low-impact XSS into an indirect privilege escalation vector. EPSS data was not provided in the input, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified; the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV, indicating no confirmed active exploitation at time of analysis. The mechanism is trivially reproducible by anyone with basic XSS knowledge, which warrants urgency despite the score - even a mid-sized municipal IT team in gdynia running AVideo for internal video hosting should treat this as a high-priority remediation item if the platform is internet-facing and the Live plugin is active. The absence of a patch at disclosure time means there is no low-effort fix. |

Reflected XSS in WWBN AVideo's Live plugin (plugin/Live/confirmLivePassword.php) allows remote unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browser of any user - including administrators - who follows a crafted link. The GET parameter u bypasses the application's $securityFilter and is interpolated without encoding directly into an HTML <img src="..."> attribute, enabling attribute breakout and injected event-handler execution. No patched version was available at time of disclosure; no public exploit code or active exploitation (CISA KEV) has been identified.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch was identified at time of analysis - the GitHub Security Advisory GHSA-87qx-9wgx-954f explicitly confirms no patched version was available at disclosure. Operators should monitor https://github.com/WWBN/AVideo/security/advisories/GHSA-87qx-9wgx-954f for a remediated release and apply it as soon as one is published. As an immediate compensating control, restrict or deny web server access to plugin/Live/confirmLivePassword.php via nginx location blocks or Apache Deny directives; this eliminates the attack surface at the cost of disabling the Live password confirmation feature. If the Live plugin is entirely unused, disabling it removes this and related attack surface with no functionality trade-off for non-Live deployments. Deploying a WAF rule that rejects requests containing HTML special characters (double-quote, angle brackets) in the u parameter provides additional defense-in-depth, though WAF rule bypasses are possible with encoding variations and should not be treated as a sole mitigation.

WWBN AVideo is an open-source PHP-based self-hosted video platform (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:wwbn:avideo:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*). The root cause is CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation - Cross-Site Scripting), specifically the reflected variant. The file plugin/Live/confirmLivePassword.php reads the unauthenticated GET parameter u and writes its value verbatim into an HTML <img src="..."> attribute. Because the parameter is not covered by the application's $securityFilter mechanism and receives neither HTML-entity encoding nor URL encoding, an attacker can insert a double-quote to prematurely close the src attribute, then append an additional tag carrying an onerror JavaScript event handler. The condition for reaching the vulnerable code path requires a non-empty key parameter and the absence of a valid c parameter, as documented in the advisory.

DescriptionCVE.org
WWBN AVideo through commit c3edcc274c389816d434acadac07ee78eaf330c1 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in plugin/Live/confirmLivePassword.php. The script interpolates the unauthenticated GET parameter u (which is not covered by $securityFilter) directly into an <img src="..."> attribute without URL- or HTML-encoding. A remote attacker can craft a link containing a double-quote character in u (with a non-empty key parameter and no valid c parameter) to close the src attribute and inject an additional tag with an onerror handler, executing arbitrary JavaScript in the site's origin in the browser of any user, including an administrator, who opens the link. No patched version was available at the time of the advisory.
