MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires the Wava Payment Plugin to be installed and active at a version in the range 0.3.1 up to (but not including) 0.3.10, with the affected public REST endpoint reachable - which it is in default configuration since the endpoint performs no authorisation, nonce, or origin verification. No special configuration, authentication, or user interaction is needed: this is remote unauthenticated exploitation against default installations. The only meaningful limiting factors are that the site must run the vulnerable plugin version and the merchant payment integration must be in use for the credential-overwrite and checkout-removal impact to be meaningful. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-risk, genuinely actionable flaw rather than a high-CVSS paper tiger, but its blast radius is bounded. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N) confirms remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity exploitation with no user interaction - the worst-case access profile - and this is corroborated by the description's explicit statement that the REST endpoint performs no authorisation, nonce, or origin verification (CWE-862). A public exploit exists (reported/published by WPScan), which materially raises likelihood versus a theoretical issue, but there is NO CISA KEV listing and NO EPSS score was provided in the input, so there is no evidence of active, widespread exploitation at this time. Signals are therefore consistent, not conflicting: easy to exploit and POC-backed, but impact is scoped (C:N/I:L/A:L, scope unchanged) - attackers cannot read data or achieve code execution, only tamper with payment-integration state and disrupt checkout. The practical business risk (payment redirection to an attacker-controlled merchant account and loss of the checkout payment method) can be severe financially even though the CVSS numeric impact is 'Low'; defenders should weight the business context, not just the 6.5 score. EPSS is MISSING from the provided data and cannot be used to refine likelihood. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated attacker sends a single crafted HTTP request to the plugin's public REST endpoint, which performs no authorisation or nonce check, overwriting the stored merchant-account credential so future payments are created against an account the attacker controls and flipping the integration into a 'verified' state the owner never completed. The same unauthenticated access can instead remove the payment method from checkout, denying customers the ability to pay. A public exploit is already available (reported by WPScan), so weaponisation requires little effort beyond locating a vulnerable site. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 21, 2026
Unauthenticated attackers can rewrite the merchant credential that a WordPress store's Wava Payment Plugin uses to create payments, silently flip the integration into a 'verified' state the site owner never completed, and strip the payment method from checkout entirely. The flaw affects versions 0.3.1 through 0.3.9 (fixed in 0.3.10) and is reachable in default configuration because the exposed public REST endpoint enforces no authorisation, nonce, or origin check. Ratings put it at CVSS 6.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N, integrity and availability only), and publicly available exploit code exists, so mass scanning against WordPress REST paths is plausible even though there is no confirmed active exploitation (no CISA KEV listing).
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade the Wava Payment Plugin to version 0.3.10 or later, which is the first release that adds authorisation, nonce and origin verification to the affected public REST endpoint; confirm the new version in the WordPress plugins screen after updating (advisory: https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/96f247d7-3007-4728-9cd7-0ea52c96edb3/). If the update cannot be applied immediately because of compatibility testing, deactivate the plugin - this fully removes the endpoint but also removes payment processing from checkout, so plan a maintenance window or temporarily switch to an alternate gateway. A narrower interim control is to block unauthenticated requests to the plugin's REST namespace at the WAF, reverse proxy, or web server (deny POSTs to the plugin's /wp-json/ route for clients without a valid session), with the trade-off that legitimate front-end payment flows that rely on that route may break and will need allow-listing. Because the merchant credential is attacker-writable, treat any exposure as a possible compromise: after patching, re-enter and re-verify the merchant account credentials, review the integration's verified/pending status and re-do verification through the provider if it was flipped, and rotate the API keys or merchant token issued by the payment provider. Also inspect checkout settings to confirm the payment method has been restored, and review logs for unauthenticated POSTs to the plugin's REST route.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) in a WordPress plugin's REST API surface. The plugin registers a public REST route via the WordPress REST API but supplies no permission_callback (or one that always returns true), and additionally omits nonce and origin/referer validation - so the usual WordPress CSRF protections that would otherwise gate a state-changing endpoint are absent too. WordPress REST routes are exposed under /wp-json/ by default and are reachable pre-authentication, which means the handler can be driven by any remote client that can reach the site; the request body alone controls which merchant credential is written and which integration flags are set. The CPE entry (cpe:2.3:a:unknown:wava_payment_plugin:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) shows the vendor namespace is not yet normalised in NVD's dictionary and the version range is wildcarded there, so version-pinning must come from the EUVD range (0.3.1 up to, but not including, 0.3.10) rather than from CPE matching. Impact is bounded to integrity and availability (C:N/I:L/A:L): no data disclosure, but the merchant account binding - the trust anchor for where customer money is routed - is attacker-controllable, and the checkout path can be disabled.

4DescriptionCVE.org
The Wava Payment Plugin WordPress plugin before 0.3.10 does not perform any authorisation, nonce or origin verification on one of its public REST endpoints, allowing unauthenticated attackers to overwrite the stored credential that identifies the merchant account the store's payments are created against, to force the integration into a verified state the site owner never completed, and to remove the payment method from the store's checkout.
