CRITICAL 9.3

DescriptionCVE.org

Snipe-IT versions before 8.7.0 contain a CSS injection vulnerability in the Custom CSS field due to incomplete sanitization that reverses HTML encoding on greater-than and double-quote characters. Superusers can plant malicious CSS payloads using @import and url() references to exfiltrate CSRF tokens from other superusers via attribute-selector rules, enabling account takeover.

AnalysisAI

Stored CSS injection in Snipe-IT before 8.7.0 lets a superuser plant malicious CSS in the Custom CSS branding setting that executes in every other superuser's browser, exfiltrating their CSRF tokens and enabling account takeover. The flawed sanitizer HTML-encoded input but then selectively reversed the encoding on '>' and '"' while never filtering @import or url(), permitting attribute-selector rules to leak tokens character-by-character. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Requires superuser privileges to write the Custom CSS branding setting (PR:H) - this is not exploitable by ordinary users or unauthenticated attackers. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine account-takeover chain but gated by a high privilege bar: the CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N, VC:H/VI:H, SC:H/SI:H) confirms the attacker must already hold superuser rights to plant the payload - so the practical threat is a rogue or compromised admin escalating laterally against other superusers, not a remote unauthenticated break-in. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Snipe-IT 8.7.0 or later, which rewrites the Custom CSS sanitizer to strip_tags input, remove @import at-rules, and block absolute/protocol-relative/data:/javascript: url() targets (commit d26d716; advisory GHSA-pvcw-mp8q-mj39). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Snipe-IT instances and verify current versions against 8.7.0 to identify vulnerable deployments; immediately restrict superuser account access to minimize exposure during remediation. …
