snipe-it before 8.7.0 contains an incorrect calculation vulnerability in checkout request handling that allows authenticated users to corrupt the assets.requests_counter through duplicate submissions and cancellations without active requests. Attackers can repeatedly call cancel endpoints without active requests to drive the counter negative, or submit duplicate checkout requests to inflate the counter, misrepresenting pending demand in the admin queue.
AnalysisAI
Counter integrity corruption in Snipe-IT before 8.7.0 allows authenticated users to manipulate the assets.requests_counter field through two distinct abuse patterns: repeatedly invoking the cancel checkout endpoint without an active request drives the counter negative, while submitting duplicate checkout requests inflates it with phantom demand. The impact is confined to the integrity of the admin asset-request queue - administrators see a falsified count of pending checkout requests, which can cause misallocation of assets. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires a valid authenticated Snipe-IT user account with at minimum the privilege level needed to submit and cancel checkout requests (PR:L per CVSS 4.0). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N) reflects low-complexity remote exploitation requiring only a standard authenticated user account, with impact limited to low-severity integrity corruption and no confidentiality or availability consequences - a base score of 5.3 (Medium) is appropriate. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade Snipe-IT to version 8.7.0 or later, which resolves this issue per the vendor security advisory GHSA-hc9q-5x9h-9gxc (https://github.com/grokability/snipe-it/security/advisories/GHSA-hc9q-5x9h-9gxc). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
