2DescriptionCVE.org
The Bricksforge plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthenticated arbitrary file upload in versions up to, and including, 3.1.8.9. This is due to insufficient validation of the attacker-controlled URL field in the 'temporaryFileUploads' parameter during form submission. An unauthenticated attacker can first obtain a valid nonce via the bricksforge_regenerate_nonce AJAX endpoint, then upload a GIF/PHP polyglot file to the temporary upload directory where MIME type validation is correctly performed. Subsequently, the attacker can submit a form with a crafted 'temporaryFileUploads' parameter where the server-side file path points to the validated GIF file, but the attacker-controlled url field ends with a .php extension. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to upload and execute arbitrary PHP code on the server.

AnalysisAI
Unauthenticated arbitrary file upload in the Bricksforge plugin for WordPress (all versions up to and including 3.1.8.9) lets a remote attacker plant a PHP payload in the upload directory and execute it, resulting in complete compromise of the affected WordPress site (CVSS 3.1 base 9.8, AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H). The attack chain abuses the plugin's public 'bricksforge_regenerate_nonce' AJAX endpoint to obtain a valid nonce without credentials, uploads a GIF/PHP polyglot through the temporary file-upload path where MIME checks are actually performed, then re-submits a form whose 'temporaryFileUploads' parameter points at the already-validated file while the attacker-controlled 'url' field forces a .php extension on the final write. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the target site to run the Bricksforge plugin at version 3.1.8.9 or earlier with its form-submission file-upload feature reachable, and specifically abuses the 'temporaryFileUploads' parameter combined with the public 'bricksforge_regenerate_nonce' AJAX endpoint that issues valid nonces to unauthenticated callers. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine high-priority vulnerability, not an inflated CVSS score. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch is identified in the available data, so remediation starts by consulting the Bricksforge version changelog (https://bricksforge.io/version-changelog/) and the Wordfence advisory (https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/e993c929-f175-43a7-92e6-9d3b089b8dde?source=cve) to determine whether a release newer than 3.1.8.9 has shipped, and upgrading to that version as soon as it is confirmed - if no fixed build yet exists, the highest-value interim controls are: disable Bricksforge form file-upload functionality or deactivate the plugin until a fix is available (directly removes the attack surface but breaks legitimate upload forms); block unauthenticated access to the 'bricksforge_regenerate_nonce' AJAX action at the WAF/reverse-proxy layer (cheap and effective, but may break legitimate form flows that rely on that endpoint for anonymous visitors); and most decisively, add server rules that prevent PHP execution inside the WordPress uploads and temporary/form-upload directories (for example Apache 'php_admin_flag engine off' or an nginx location block returning 403 for .php under wp-content/uploads) - this neutralises the final .php write regardless of plugin state, at the cost of breaking any legitimate feature that serves executable content from those paths. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, disable or uninstall the Bricksforge plugin (all versions up to and including 3.1.8.9) from every WordPress instance; if business-critical functionality prevents removal, apply a virtual patch by blocking access to the 'bricksforge_regenerate_nonce' AJAX endpoint and any unauthenticated file-upload paths, and enforce a WAF rule to reject uploads containing PHP code. …
