MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | The attacker must hold a valid Dolibarr API token associated with any user account, including the lowest-privilege roles (CVSS PR:L). The Dolibarr REST API must be enabled - this is a configurable deployment option but is commonly enabled in integrations. No administrative rights, elevated group membership, or special permissions beyond a standard authenticated account are required. Exploitation is bounded to confidentiality: group names, entity associations, and private user notes can be read, but no data modification or deletion is possible (VI:N, VA:N). Multi-tenant deployments face cross-tenant exposure; single-tenant environments are limited to internal enumeration. The secondary defect in get() additionally allows ID 0 to bypass access checks in unpatched versions. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N, score 5.3) accurately reflects the attack profile: network-reachable, low complexity, low privilege required, read-only confidentiality impact with no integrity or availability consequence. EPSS data is not present in the input - exploitation probability cannot be quantified. The vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV and no public exploit code has been identified, suggesting opportunistic mass exploitation has not occurred. Real-world risk is highest in multi-tenant Dolibarr deployments where group membership and entity associations reveal organizational structure across tenants; in single-tenant environments risk is reduced but not eliminated, as internal privilege enumeration remains possible. The 14-major-version window (10.0.0-23.x) indicates a long-standing gap in API authorization coverage, increasing the likelihood that unpatched instances exist in production. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker with any valid Dolibarr API credential iterates GET /users/1/groups, GET /users/2/groups, and so on using a simple script or curl loop. For each user ID that exists, the endpoint returns group names, entity associations, and private notes without checking whether the caller has rights to view that user - exposing full organizational structure across all tenants in a multi-tenant deployment. No public PoC has been identified, but the technique requires only a valid API token and basic HTTP tooling. |

Alert meAnalysisAI
Insecure Direct Object Reference in Dolibarr's Users::getGroups REST API endpoint allows any authenticated user to read group memberships of arbitrary users across tenant boundaries without authorization. Versions 10.0.0 through 23.x omit the per-object access check in GET /users/{id}/groups, exposing group names, entity associations, and private notes to any API credential holder. Fixed in 24.0.0; no public exploit or CISA KEV listing identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to Dolibarr 24.0.0 or later, which incorporates the authorization fix from commit fd478850f823e27c672300acb4b02baeef79aef1 (https://github.com/Dolibarr/dolibarr/releases/tag/24.0.0). If immediate upgrade is not feasible, restrict REST API access to trusted internal networks or authenticated VPN users at the network layer, reducing the attack surface to internal threats only - note this does not eliminate the flaw for insider threat scenarios. Disabling the Dolibarr REST API entirely (if unused) removes the attack surface with no impact on UI-based users. Audit existing API tokens and revoke any that belong to low-trust accounts, and enforce the user.user.lire permission requirement for all API consumers as an interim control until patching is complete.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Dolibarr is an open-source ERP and CRM platform whose REST API is implemented in htdocs/user/class/api_users.class.php. The vulnerable method getGroups($id) retrieved user group data after only confirming the target user exists, without calling DolibarrApi::_checkAccessToResource('user', $user->id, 'user') - the standard Dolibarr object-level permission gate. The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): authentication succeeds but the endpoint never verifies whether the authenticated caller has rights to view the specific user object being queried, enabling classic IDOR. The commit diff at fd478850 also reveals a secondary defect in the get() method where the condition $id != 0 allowed user ID 0 to bypass the authorization check entirely; this was corrected in the same patch. CPE cpe:2.3:a:dolibarr:dolibarr:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* covers all affected versions.

DescriptionCVE.org
Dolibarr versions 10.0.0 before 24.0.0 fail to perform per-object authorization checks in the Users::getGroups REST API endpoint, allowing authenticated users to retrieve group memberships of other users. Attackers can call GET /users/{id}/groups with arbitrary user identifiers to access group names, entity associations, and private notes across tenant boundaries.
