| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated account with the WordPress contributor role or higher on a site running Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP versions 1.63 through 1.65. The attacker invokes the plugin's schema-generation function against a post ID they do not own; the function fails to verify the requester has edit rights to that specific post. Exploitation is limited to sites that grant contributor (or higher) accounts to untrusted or semi-trusted users - typical of multi-author blogs, guest-post workflows, or open-registration sites configured to assign contributor roles. Impact is confidentiality-only: it discloses the CONTENT of other users' draft, pending, private, and password-protected posts, but does not allow modification. No user interaction by a victim is required. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but low-severity information-disclosure flaw, not a top-priority issue. The CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N, vendor score 2.7) reflects confidentiality-only impact with no integrity or availability effect. There is a notable internal conflict: the vector encodes PR:H (high privileges), yet the description states the flaw is exploitable by 'contributor role and above' - contributor is one of WordPress's LOWEST-privileged authoring roles, so PR:L is the more defensible choice, which would raise the score to roughly 4.3. This under-scores the barrier: any authenticated contributor, not an admin, can read other users' unpublished and protected content. Exploitation signals are modest: EPSS is 0.17% (7th percentile), the CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, and there is no evidence of active exploitation - but public exploit code exists (WPScan). The realistic risk is a low-privileged insider or a registered contributor on a multi-author site harvesting drafts, private posts, and password-protected content they should not see. Given a patch is available (1.66) and impact is confidentiality-only, this is a routine-priority patch, not an emergency, but multi-author sites that grant contributor accounts should treat it as meaningful. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker registers or already holds a contributor account on a multi-author WordPress site running the plugin below 1.66. They invoke the schema-generation route for post IDs they do not own - which skips the per-post edit-capability check - and read back the content of other users' draft, pending, private, and password-protected posts. Public exploit code is available via WPScan, making the request trivial to reproduce. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 17, 2026
Information disclosure in the Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP WordPress plugin (versions 1.63 through 1.65) allows an authenticated user holding the WordPress contributor role or higher to retrieve the content of other users' draft, pending, private, and password-protected posts by invoking the plugin's schema-generation function against a post ID they are not permitted to edit. The root cause is a missing per-post edit-capability check, and impact is confidentiality-only - post content is exposed but cannot be modified. A public proof-of-concept is available, so exploitation is trivial for anyone with a contributor-level account on an affected site; EPSS is low at 0.17% (7th percentile) and there is no indication of confirmed active exploitation (not in CISA KEV).
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade the Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP plugin to version 1.66 or later - the advisory states that versions before 1.66 are vulnerable, and 1.66 contains the missing per-post capability check. Update details and confirmation of the fix are available in the WPScan advisory at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/c6476bdd-1360-449f-b7be-6c532efe9de9/ and the NVD entry at https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-82126. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to reduce the supply of exploitable accounts: audit and downgrade or remove contributor-and-above accounts that belong to untrusted or semi-trusted users, and temporarily stop auto-assigning the contributor role on open registrations - the trade-off is that legitimate guest authors and multi-author workflows will lose publishing access until roles are restored. As a last resort the plugin can be deactivated until patched, which removes the vulnerable schema-generation endpoint entirely; the trade-off is loss of structured-data/JSON-LD markup and the associated SEO and AMP rendering benefit across the site. Generic request filtering that blocks the plugin's schema-generation action is possible but brittle, since parameter and action names vary and legitimate front-end schema rendering must keep working. Note that patching does not retract content already disclosed, so a review of draft and private post exposure for affected sites is advisable.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The vulnerability is a broken access control flaw (CWE-284) in the WordPress plugin 'Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP', which generates JSON-LD structured-data markup for posts so search engines and AMP pages can interpret them. The schema-generation routine accepts a user-supplied post identifier and returns or renders that post's content without first verifying that the requesting user has edit rights over that specific post (for example via current_user_can('edit_post', $post_id)) and without regard to the target post's status or password protection. Because the check that is missing is object-level authorization rather than authentication, any account that can reach the endpoint - the contributor role and above per the independent assessment - can enumerate post IDs and read content that WordPress would ordinarily withhold from them. The CPE record cpe:2.3:a:unknown:schema_&_structured_data_for_wp_&_amp:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms the affected component, with the EUVD data narrowing the vulnerable range to 1.63 through <1.66. This is distinct from an authentication bypass despite the associated tag: the attacker is authenticated, but the plugin fails to enforce authorization on individual posts.

The Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP WordPress plugin before 1.66 does not check that a user is allowed to edit the specific post they request schema generation for, allowing users with the contributor role and above to obtain the content of other users' draft, pending, private and password protected posts.
