DescriptionCVE.org

The FAQ Builder AYS WordPress plugin before 1.8.5 does not sanitize or escape content submitted by unauthenticated visitors before storing it and outputting it in an admin area page, and the escaping it does apply is undone by a subsequent decoding step, leading to Stored XSS which will execute in the context of a logged in administrator.

AnalysisAI

Stored XSS in the FAQ Builder AYS WordPress plugin (versions before 1.8.5) permits unauthenticated remote attackers to inject persistent JavaScript payloads via visitor-submitted content that is stored without sanitization and later rendered in the WordPress admin dashboard. A double-bypass condition compounds the flaw: the plugin's own partial HTML escaping is undone by a subsequent server-side decoding step, ensuring injected scripts reach the admin browser intact. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation No authentication is required to inject the payload - exploitation begins with a standard HTTP POST to the plugin's public-facing FAQ submission endpoint, available on any WordPress site with the plugin installed and active (versions 1.6.3 through 1.8.4). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H, score 8.8) accurately captures the core attack profile - network-accessible, low complexity, no credentials required - but the S:U (unchanged scope) designation is conservative. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade FAQ Builder AYS to version 1.8.5 or later, which resolves both the missing input sanitization and the escaping-then-decoding bypass. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
