Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an active authenticated session to the Red Hat Satellite 6 API with at minimum the 'view Content Views' permission granted in any organization on the instance - no administrative rights are needed. The vulnerability is a multi-tenant isolation failure and only applies when multiple organizations are configured within the same Satellite server; a Satellite deployment with a single organization configured has no cross-org boundary to cross and is not exposed to this specific risk. The attacker must know or successfully enumerate Content View IDs belonging to another organization; IDs are typically sequential integers, making enumeration trivial once API access is established. Exploitation is strictly limited to read-only disclosure of lifecycle metadata - no modification, deletion, or privilege escalation is possible through this flaw. Per CVSS PR:L, a standard low-privilege authenticated account (not anonymous or unauthenticated access) is required.

Impact

The CVSS vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N accurately characterizes this as a low-complexity, network-reachable flaw that any authenticated Satellite user can attempt without elevated privileges. Real-world risk is bounded by two factors: the impact is strictly confidential metadata disclosure with no write or availability consequence, and the vulnerability only materializes in multi-organization Satellite deployments - single-org instances gain no additional attack surface. EPSS data was not provided; given the niche enterprise footprint of Red Hat Satellite compared to broadly deployed infrastructure software, widespread automated scanning is implausible. No CISA KEV listing and no public exploit code are confirmed at time of analysis, which is consistent with the low-to-moderate urgency implied by the CVSS score. The primary realistic threat is an insider or a low-privileged user in one organizational unit enumerating content management activity in a peer organizational unit on the same Satellite server, which could aid internal reconnaissance by revealing what software is being published and promoted, by whom, and when - information that could expose organizational structure or patch cadence.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated Satellite user assigned to Organization A - holding only the standard 'view Content Views' permission - iterates through integer Content View IDs via the Content View History REST API endpoint, retrieving lifecycle records for Content Views owned by Organization B. The attacker learns which repositories were published and promoted, when, and by which internal usernames, enabling reconnaissance of a peer team's patch management cadence. No public exploit code exists at time of analysis, but the low technical bar means a short API script or even manual curl requests are sufficient.

AnalysisAIv1 – Aug 26, 2026

Cross-organizational information disclosure in Katello - the content management engine of Red Hat Satellite 6 - allows any authenticated user to read lifecycle history of Content Views belonging to organizations other than their own. By supplying an arbitrary Content View identifier to the Content View History API endpoint, a low-privileged user bypasses organization-scope authorization and retrieves publication events, promotion history, associated usernames, and timestamps for foreign tenants. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and no CISA KEV listing exists; the CVSS 4.3 Medium rating reflects the strictly read-only, single-organization-boundary impact.

RemediationAI

Apply the patched release of Red Hat Satellite 6 when made available via the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-79654. A specific fixed version number was not confirmed in the available input data - monitor that advisory page for the patched build. As a compensating control pending a patch, administrators of multi-organization Satellite deployments should audit and tighten Satellite RBAC assignments, restricting Content View API access to users who genuinely require cross-organization visibility; reducing the pool of users with API credentials limits the blast radius. If multi-tenancy is not operationally required, consolidating all content management into a single organization eliminates the cross-org boundary that this flaw exploits, though this may require significant operational restructuring. Note that restricting API roles reduces self-service capability for legitimate users in each organization and should be weighed against workflow impact.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Katello is the content lifecycle management layer embedded in Red Hat Satellite 6, responsible for managing Content Views - versioned snapshots of synchronized repositories used to control what software is available to registered hosts at each lifecycle stage. The Content View History API exposes publication and promotion events for a given Content View. The root cause is CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key), a class of Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) flaw: the API resolves the Content View record by the caller-supplied identifier without re-verifying that the resolved object falls within the caller's authorized organization scope. Object-level authorization is missing even though collection-level authorization (permission to view Content Views) is enforced. The affected CPE is cpe:2.3:a:red_hat:red_hat_satellite_6:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, with the wildcard version pattern indicating broad applicability across Satellite 6.x releases.

DescriptionCVE.org

A flaw was found in Katello where the Content View History API does not properly enforce authorization when accessing a Content View specified by the user. An authenticated user with permission to view Content Views in one organization may be able to access the lifecycle history of a Content View belonging to another organization by supplying its identifier to the affected API endpoint. This can result in unauthorized disclosure of Content View lifecycle information, including publication and promotion events, associated users, and timestamps.
