DescriptionCVE.org

RustFS is a distributed object storage system built in Rust. Prior to 1.0.0-beta.12, RustFS handles FTPS MKD in FtpsDriver::mkd in crates/protocols/src/ftps/driver.rs by calling storage.create_bucket without authorize_operation for S3Action::CreateBucket, allowing authenticated FTPS users denied s3:CreateBucket to create buckets. This issue is fixed in version 1.0.0-beta.12.

AnalysisAI

Authorization bypass in RustFS FTPS MKD handler allows authenticated FTPS users to create S3 buckets in violation of enforced IAM-style policies. All RustFS releases prior to 1.0.0-beta.12 are affected via the FtpsDriver::mkd function in crates/protocols/src/ftps/driver.rs, which calls storage.create_bucket without invoking authorize_operation for S3Action::CreateBucket. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires valid FTPS credentials (authenticated access) to a RustFS server running a version prior to 1.0.0-beta.12. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The provided CVSS 5.4 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:L) accurately characterizes this as a medium-severity issue. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An authenticated FTPS user whose account is explicitly denied `s3:CreateBucket` in their IAM-style policy connects to a pre-1.0.0-beta.12 RustFS server using any standard FTPS client and issues an MKD command naming a new bucket. The `FtpsDriver::mkd` function calls `storage.create_bucket` directly, skipping the authorization check, and the bucket is created successfully. …
Remediation Upgrade to RustFS version 1.0.0-beta.12, which introduces the missing `authorize_operation` call for `S3Action::CreateBucket` in the FTPS MKD handler. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
