3DescriptionCVE.org
Craft CMS versions before 5.10.8 contain a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the control panel where draft names are rendered without HTML encoding in element chips and cards. A low-privilege user who can create element drafts can inject malicious JavaScript that executes in the browser of any higher-privileged user viewing the affected element, allowing account creation and other authenticated actions.
AnalysisAI
Stored XSS in Craft CMS's control panel allows a low-privilege author to execute arbitrary JavaScript in an administrator's authenticated session by injecting a malicious payload into a draft name, which is rendered without HTML encoding in element chips and cards. All Craft CMS installations running versions 5.0.0-RC1 through 5.10.8 (exclusive) are affected. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The attacker must hold a Craft CMS control-panel account with permission to edit entries in at least one section and create drafts - a standard author or editor role, not an administrator. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.1 (Medium) correctly captures the cross-privilege stored XSS character of this vulnerability: network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation by a low-privilege authenticated user (PR:L, UI:P), with subsequent-system impact of Low for both confidentiality and integrity (SC:L/SI:L). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An author-level Craft CMS user creates an entry draft and names it with a JavaScript payload that reads `Craft.csrfTokenValue` from the page and POSTs it along with a new-user form body to the `users/save-user` endpoint. The next time an administrator browses an element index with drafts visible - or opens a relation field referencing the draft-carrying entry - the stored script fires silently in the administrator's browser, uses their live session credentials and CSRF token to create a new administrator account, and leaves no visible trace in the UI. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade Craft CMS to version 5.10.8 or later via Composer: `composer require craftcms/cms:^5.10.8`. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
