DescriptionCVE.org

The state that Kibana stores for an Observability Onboarding flow is not bound to the user who created the flow, and the routes that read and update that state do not verify ownership. An authenticated user who holds only generic read access to the space can therefore discover the onboarding flows of other users, read their onboarding state, and write arbitrary progress data into them. A tampered flow can also cause the owner's onboarding view to fail with a server error.

AnalysisAI

Missing authorization on Kibana's Observability Onboarding API routes allows any authenticated low-privilege user sharing a Kibana space to enumerate, read, and overwrite the onboarding flow state of other users in that space. Affected installations include all Kibana versions prior to 8.19.19 and 9.4.5 across both self-managed and Elastic Cloud deployments. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated Kibana session with at least generic read access to the target space - the CVSS vector PR:L confirms a low-privilege account is necessary, so unauthenticated access is not sufficient. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The vendor-assigned CVSS 7.6 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:L) correctly captures the network-accessible, low-complexity attack requiring only a low-privilege authenticated session and no victim interaction. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to Kibana 8.19.19 or 9.4.5 or later as specified in Elastic advisory ESA-2026-86 (https://discuss.elastic.co/t/kibana-8-19-19-and-9-4-5-security-update-esa-2026-86/389515); these releases add ownership enforcement to the Observability Onboarding API routes. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory Kibana instances and confirm affected versions (prior to 8.19.19 and 9.4.5); while no public exploit identified at time of analysis, do not discount this risk given the authorization flaw's exploitability by any authenticated user. …
