2DescriptionCVE.org
Missing Authorization (CWE-862) in Kibana can lead to unauthorized execution of Osquery and Elastic Defend response actions on managed hosts via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). A Kibana user who is able to author and evaluate Elastic Security detection rules can cause response actions to be carried out against enrolled agents without holding the Osquery live query privileges or the Elastic Defend response action privileges that normally govern those capabilities. Depending on the response action involved, this can result in disclosure of information from the affected hosts or in unauthorized changes to their state.
AnalysisAI
Missing Authorization in Kibana's Elastic Security module permits authenticated users holding detection rule authoring privileges to execute Osquery live queries and Elastic Defend response actions against enrolled managed endpoints without possessing the specific Osquery or Elastic Defend privileges that normally govern those capabilities. The CVSS 8.1 score reflects a network-accessible, low-complexity attack path with high confidentiality and integrity impact against enrolled host infrastructure. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an authenticated Kibana account with the ability to author and evaluate Elastic Security detection rules - this is not a default low-privilege account and requires specific Kibana Space and Feature permissions granted by an administrator. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The vendor-assigned CVSS 8.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N) captures a network-reachable, low-complexity attack requiring only low-privilege authenticated access, with high confidentiality and integrity consequences. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade Kibana to version 8.19.20 or 9.4.5 or later, as specified in Elastic Security Advisory ESA-2026-96 at https://discuss.elastic.co/t/kibana-8-19-20-and-9-4-5-security-update-esa-2026-96/389528. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
