Open WebUI is an extensible, feature-rich, and user-friendly self-hosted AI platform. From 0.9.0 until 0.11.0, the terminal file-preview serveUrl iframe branch always granted allow-same-origin together with allow-scripts for HTML files served from the application origin. Any authenticated user with access to a configured terminal server could cause script in a previewed file to run in the Open WebUI origin, read the victim's session token from localStorage, and take over the account, with possible server-side code execution if the victim was an admin or held workspace.functions. This issue is fixed in 0.11.0.
AnalysisAI
The terminal file-preview feature in Open WebUI 0.9.0 through 0.10.2 allows an authenticated attacker with access to a configured terminal server to execute arbitrary scripts in the application's own browser origin by exploiting a hardcoded iframe sandbox misconfiguration, enabling full session token theft and account takeover. The serveUrl iframe branch unconditionally combined allow-same-origin with allow-scripts for HTML files served from the application's own domain, completely negating iframe sandbox isolation regardless of user settings. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | At least one terminal server must be configured by an administrator via the `TERMINAL_SERVER_CONNECTIONS` environment variable, which is empty by default - deployments with no terminal server configured are completely unaffected regardless of version. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N (8.2) accurately reflects the attack's real-world constraints. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade Open WebUI to version 0.11.0 or later via `pip install --upgrade open-webui`, available at https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/releases/tag/v0.11.0. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
