| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the phpIPAM REST API be enabled and network-reachable by the attacker; the attacker supplies a numeric database row identifier (app_id value) where a secret API token (app_code) is expected, and relies on a prior cache entry so that the incorrectly-keyed object cache resolves the collision. No authentication, credentials, or user interaction are needed (PR:N/UI:N), and default configurations with the API in use are exploitable. The main limiting factors are that the REST API must be active and exposed - instances that do not expose or use the REST API, or that restrict it to trusted hosts, are not practically reachable - and the target must be running a version before 1.8.2. |
| Impact | The signals are consistent and point to real, actionable risk rather than an inflated CVSS number. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N) indicates fully remote, low-complexity, unauthenticated exploitation with high confidentiality and integrity impact, and the exploitation primitive - substituting a low-integer row ID for a secret token - is trivially automatable and requires no special knowledge or brute forcing of a large keyspace. It is not in CISA KEV and no EPSS score was provided, so widespread active exploitation is not confirmed; however, the technique is documented in a VulnCheck advisory and reproducible from the public patch commit, which typically shortens time-to-exploit. Any organization running phpIPAM with the REST API enabled and reachable from an untrusted network should treat this as urgent and patch promptly. Note the one apparent tension: the description mentions the ability to delete records (an availability/integrity effect), yet the vendor vector sets VA:N - deletion is scored here as an integrity impact rather than availability, which is defensible but worth verifying against the vendor advisory if availability weighting matters to your prioritization. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who can reach the phpIPAM REST API sends an authentication request presenting a small integer (e.g., a low database row ID) in place of a secret app_code token; due to the cache key collision, the value is accepted and the attacker receives authenticated API access. From there they enumerate, modify, and delete all IPAM records - subnets, addresses, and device data - without any credentials. The technique is documented by VulnCheck and reproducible from the public patch, so a working exploit path is effectively known even absent a packaged tool. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 24, 2026
Authentication bypass in phpIPAM's REST API before 1.8.2 lets unauthenticated remote attackers obtain full API access by abusing an object-cache key collision, then wielding a numeric database row ID as a valid API token to read, write, and delete all IP address management records. VulnCheck reported the flaw and the vendor shipped a fix in 1.8.2; a patch commit is public, so publicly available exploit code exists in the sense of a documented, reproducible technique, though no active exploitation is confirmed. With a CVSS 4.0 base of 9.3 and no authentication or user interaction required, this is a high-priority issue for internet- or network-exposed phpIPAM instances.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to phpIPAM 1.8.2, which contains the vendor fix (Vendor-released patch: 1.8.2), per the release notes at https://github.com/phpipam/phpipam/releases/tag/v1.8.2 and patch commit d29728fecca327f1ea825798908d0cfa4c62408e; note that 1.8.2 also bundles fixes for several other API and temporary-share vulnerabilities plus two second-order SQL injection issues, so it should be applied as a single security release. If you cannot upgrade immediately, disable the REST API if it is not required, or restrict access to the API endpoints to trusted management hosts via a network ACL, reverse-proxy allowlist, or firewall rule - the trade-off is that automation or integrations relying on the API will break until an allowlist is configured. As an additional interim control, place phpIPAM behind an authenticating reverse proxy or VPN so the API is never directly reachable from untrusted networks; the side effect is added latency and operational overhead for API clients.

Technical ContextAI · show details
phpIPAM is an open-source, PHP/MySQL web application for IP address management (IPAM), subnet and VLAN tracking, and network documentation, exposing a REST API for automation. The root cause is CWE-706 (Use of Incorrectly-Resolved Name or Reference): the API's object cache is keyed on the lookup value alone and omits the column being searched. Because app_id (a numeric database row identifier) and app_code (the intended secret API token) are resolved through the same cache namespace, a cache entry written during an app_id lookup can satisfy a later app_code lookup. The attacker therefore presents a small, guessable integer row ID where a secret token is expected, and the cache collision causes it to authenticate. The affected product per CPE is cpe:2.3:a:phpipam:phpipam across all versions prior to 1.8.2.

DescriptionCVE.org
phpIPAM before 1.8.2 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability in the REST API that allows unauthenticated attackers to gain full API access by exploiting an insecure object cache keying mechanism. The cache is keyed by lookup value alone without including the searched column, enabling an entry written during an app_id lookup to satisfy a subsequent app_code lookup, allowing attackers to use the numeric database row identifier as an API token to read, write, and delete all IP address management records.
Executive ViewAI
phpIPAM, the organization's IP address management platform, is vulnerable to an unauthenticated attack that grants complete API access, enabling attackers to alter or delete critical network resource records. All phpIPAM instances exposed to untrusted networks are at risk of compromise without patching. Immediate upgrade to version 1.8.2 is required to prevent unauthorized network reconfiguration.
Apply vendor patch.
