Exploitation Conditions

Exploitable only when MyTube is deployed in multi-user mode with loginEnabled=true AND a visitor password configured; the attacker must authenticate as the visitor role (PR:L) using that visitor password, then query /api/videos or /api/videos/:id to retrieve visibility=0 records and use the leaked videoPath/subtitle/thumbnail values against the unauthenticated /videos/* and /subtitles/* static routes. Default loginEnabled=false single-user deployments are NOT affected because all callers are owner-equivalent and no visitor role exists. The exposure is limited to confidentiality (metadata disclosure and media/subtitle download); it grants no write, modification, or availability impact.

Impact

The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N) scoring 7.1 describes a confidentiality-only authorization failure (CWE-862) reachable over the network by a low-privileged visitor without user interaction. Signals mostly agree on a moderate, not critical, priority: not listed in CISA KEV (no confirmed active exploitation), no EPSS probability supplied, and the vuln.today decision label is 'this_week' rather than act_now/emergency. The GitHub advisory publishes concrete curl-based PoC steps, so exploitation is well-documented and trivial once the preconditions are met. The key limiting factor is that this is NOT a default-configuration flaw: it only applies when loginEnabled=true and a visitor password is configured, so default single-user (loginEnabled=false) deployments are entirely unaffected. Impact is bounded to disclosure (hidden video metadata and the actual media/subtitle files), with no integrity or availability impact. Net assessment: a real, credible issue for the subset of multi-user deployments, but its real-world blast radius is constrained by the non-default prerequisite and the confidentiality-only impact - consistent with the 'this_week' priority rather than an emergency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

On a shared MyTube instance running in multi-user mode (loginEnabled=true) with a visitor password, an attacker who knows or is given the visitor password authenticates as a visitor and requests /api/videos, which returns every video including hidden visibility=0 records with their videoPath, sourceUrl, subtitle and thumbnail paths. The attacker then fetches those paths from the unauthenticated /videos/* and /subtitles/* static routes to download the hidden media directly. The GitHub advisory includes step-by-step curl commands demonstrating this flow.

Alert me

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 30, 2026

MyTube through 1.10.2, when deployed in multi-user mode with loginEnabled=true and a visitor password configured, lets an authenticated visitor retrieve hidden (visibility=0) video records and then download the associated media and subtitles because the backend video queries and static media routes do not enforce the visitor's intended public-only role restriction. The GitHub security advisory includes a public proof-of-concept request sequence; it is not independently verified as working exploit code, and no CISA KEV entry or confirmed active exploitation was reported. Deployments using the default loginEnabled=false single-user mode are unaffected.

RemediationAI

Upgrade MyTube to 1.10.3, the vendor-released patched version; the fixed tree is at https://github.com/franklioxygen/MyTube/tree/v1.10.3. The fix gates static and cloud media routes behind authentication when login is enabled and enforces visitor visibility per-file, including passing the caller's role into getVideos() and getVideoById() and returning 404 for hidden video IDs to visitors. The advisory is at https://github.com/franklioxygen/MyTube/security/advisories/GHSA-hcm6-w6x8-6jhr and the fix commits include 456d09892b599e78538ef1a795f49b91256c3ca6, 7cc7c6a7d297ccbd8bd2c76755129381b96f8456, 905cecc010f320ab4e575eb3054179e9616a0b39 and f9ae048cc37c98a3576115d8841f8e96bade5c76. If upgrading is not immediately possible, remove the affected configuration by disabling multi-user login (loginEnabled=false) or not configuring a visitor password; this avoids the role boundary entirely but removes visitor access. No other vendor workaround is specified in the available sources.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The defect is a missing authorization check (CWE-862) in MyTube's TypeScript backend. MyTube stores a visibility column on videos (0 = hidden, 1 = public). In multi-user mode with loginEnabled=true and admin/visitor passwords, roleBasedAuthMiddleware.ts permits every GET request from a visitor, while storageService/videos.ts getVideos() and getVideoById(id) query by ID without taking the caller's role or filtering on visibility; serveMountVideo() also serves mounted files without a visibility check. The only visitor filtering in the normal API path is client-side in VideoContext.tsx, and the RSS visitor feed already applies WHERE visibility = 1, confirming the intended restriction. A visitor who authenticates with the visitor password can call /api/videos or /api/videos/:id to obtain titles, sourceUrl, videoPath, subtitle and thumbnail paths, then use those values against the unauthenticated /videos/* and /subtitles/* routes to download media without credentials. The trigger is an authenticated HTTP request to those endpoints; impact is confidentiality-only, with no write, modification or availability effect. The assessed CVSS 3.1 vector is AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N.

DescriptionCVE.org

MyTube is a self-hosted downloader and player for several video websites. Prior to version 1.10.3, backend video access does not enforce the visitor role's intended public-only restriction when loginEnabled=true and a visitor password is configured. The frontend filter in VideoContext.tsx is only client-side, roleBasedAuthMiddleware.ts allows all visitor GET requests, and storageService/videos.ts performs getVideos() and getVideoById(id) queries without checking the caller's role or visibility. A visitor can enumerate /api/videos or request /api/videos/:id to retrieve hidden visibility=0 records, exposing titles, sourceUrl values, videoPath values, subtitle paths and thumbnailPath values. The serveMountVideo() path also serves mounted video files without visibility checks. Leaked paths work against unauthenticated /videos/* and /subtitles/* routes, allowing media downloads without credentials. The RSS visitor feed already filters visibility=1 content and is not the affected query path. Default loginEnabled=false single-user deployments are unaffected by this role-boundary issue because all callers are owner-equivalent. This issue is fixed in version 1.10.3.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

MyTube video platform versions up to 1.10.2, when configured for multi-user access with login enabled, allow authenticated visitors to access hidden video content and associated media files, undermining content access controls. This affects organizations using MyTube for internal or restricted video libraries, potentially exposing confidential recordings to unauthorized viewers and eroding trust in the platform's security. Leadership should prioritize remediation because hidden content may contain sensitive information whose leakage could have operational or compliance consequences.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: disable multi-user login mode (set loginEnabled=false) or remove visitor password access if not essential; restrict network access to MyTube instances to trusted networks; implement additional authentication or authorization layers (e.g., reverse proxy with role checks); monitor access logs for unauthorized retrieval of hidden videos; and review hidden video content to determine sensitivity and potential impact.
