MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Defense Evasion The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a valid AMQP 1.0 credential on the RabbitMQ broker (any user that can connect to a virtual host), but NO management, monitoring, policymaker, or administrator tag and no resource-level read/write permission on the target exchanges/queues. The specific trigger is the AMQP 1.0 HTTP-over-AMQP management endpoint GET /bindings (the rabbit_amqp_management GET handler) - the sibling equivalent HTTP API GET /api/bindings performs proper checks and is not the vulnerable path. Affected only in versions 4.0.0 through 4.0.22 / 4.1.x <4.1.14 / 4.2.x <4.2.9 / 4.3.x <4.3.3; the AMQP 1.0 protocol/management link support must be in use. Limiting factors: an attacker must already possess valid broker credentials, disclosure is confined to the virtual host(s) that account can access, and only routing topology metadata (not message payloads) is exposed. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N with SC:H) reflects a network-reachable, low-complexity flaw requiring only a low-privileged authenticated AMQP 1.0 account, with impact limited to disclosure of binding topology. No EPSS score, CISA KEV listing, or public POC is present in the provided data, so this is not confirmed to be under active exploitation and no weaponized exploit is known. The realistic severity is lower than the headline number implies: the leaked data is routing metadata (exchanges, queues, routing keys, binding arguments) rather than message contents or credentials - a confidentiality-only issue with no integrity or availability impact. Note a modeling nuance: NVD placed the confidentiality impact in the subsequent-system metric (SC:H) with VC:N, which inflates the score versus treating it as a bounded metadata leak of the vulnerable system (VC:L); this is worth verifying against the vendor advisory. Overall this is a moderate, defense-in-depth authorization hardening fix rather than an urgent priority, though its ease of triggering against any authenticated tenant makes patching worthwhile in multi-tenant brokers. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A tenant or application holding an ordinary AMQP 1.0 account with no management/monitoring/policymaker/administrator tag opens a management link pair and issues GET /bindings for arbitrary source/destination pairs. Because the handler skips the resource permission check that every sibling operation performs, the client receives the complete binding topology of its virtual host - mapping every exchange-to-queue route, routing key, and binding argument. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, but exploitation is trivial using the standard rabbitmq_amqp_client. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 25, 2026
RabbitMQ 4.0.0 through 4.0.22, 4.1.x before 4.1.14, 4.2.x before 4.2.9, and 4.3.x before 4.3.3 exposes the complete binding topology of a virtual host to any authenticated AMQP 1.0 user, because the HTTP-over-AMQP management handler for GET /bindings (rabbit_amqp_management) returns the binding list without performing the resource-level read/write permission checks that every sibling operation in the same module performs. A low-privileged account with no management, monitoring, policymaker, or administrator tag - and no read/write permission on the relevant exchanges or queues - can enumerate source exchanges, destination queues and exchanges, routing keys, and binding arguments for any vhost it can connect to; only routing metadata is disclosed, not message payloads, and the classic HTTP management API GET /api/bindings is not affected because it validates permissions. Exploitation requires valid broker credentials (unauthenticated remote access is not sufficient), and no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis; the CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.3 primarily reflects the low-privilege network-reachable precondition with a high subsequent-system confidentiality contribution in the assessing vector, while an independent CVSS 3.1 assessment scores the flaw 6.1-class impact as limited to confidentiality only.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to RabbitMQ 4.3.3, 4.2.9, 4.1.14, or 4.0.23, choosing the maintenance line that matches your deployment; release artifacts are linked from https://github.com/rabbitmq/rabbitmq-server/releases/tag/v4.3.3 and https://github.com/rabbitmq/rabbitmq-server/releases/tag/v4.2.9, and the underlying code fixes are in commits https://github.com/rabbitmq/rabbitmq-server/commit/341e3f2795ebd1f816e712530f651a3221d23ad9 (handler now calls binding_checks with the authenticated user) and https://github.com/rabbitmq/rabbitmq-server/commit/b94004dea530f961b3dc649d94969b89f1a3183f; full details are in advisory GHSA-w9hf-476r-443x. Until an upgrade can be scheduled, the most effective compensating control is to constrain the blast radius of low-privileged AMQP 1.0 credentials: audit and limit which accounts can connect to which virtual hosts, and tighten the set of users allowed to open management link pairs where your client tooling permits it - the trade-off is reduced multi-tenant flexibility and possible breakage of legitimate monitoring tooling that relies on the AMQP 1.0 management interface. Additionally, restrict network reachability of the AMQP listener (default 5672) to trusted sources via firewall rules or TLS/mTLS client restrictions, accepting that this limits all messaging traffic from untrusted networks, not just management operations; note that the standard HTTP management API GET /api/bindings already enforces permissions and cannot be used as a substitute leak, and that rotating credentials for any non-management account with broad vhost access reduces the value of the leaked topology. These measures mitigate exposure only - they do not remove the missing authorization check, so patching remains the only complete fix.

Technical ContextAI · show details
RabbitMQ's AMQP 1.0 implementation supports HTTP-over-AMQP style management by allowing a client to attach a management link pair and issue request/response operations analogous to the HTTP management API. The vulnerable component is the Erlang module deps/rabbit/src/rabbit_amqp_management.erl, which implements the request handlers for the AMQP 1.0 management link. Its GET /bindings handler - corresponding to the rabbitamqpmanagement endpoint for listing bindings between a source exchange and a destination queue or exchange - accepted the authenticated User record but discarded it (bound as _User) and forwarded the query straight to the binding lookup, returning results unchanged. CWE-285 (Improper Authorization) is the correct root-cause class: the operation is reachable by any authenticated AMQP 1.0 principal, but the per-object authorization primitive (rabbit_access_control check_resource_access, invoked here through binding_checks for source read and destination write) was simply omitted. The upstream fix, visible in commit 341e3f2795ebd1f816e712530f651a3221d23ad9, threads the real User and permission caches into the handler, wraps the query map correctly, and calls binding_checks(SrcXName, DstName, Key, User, PermCaches0) before listing bindings; accompanying test changes in amqp_auth_SUITE.erl and unit_amqp_management_SUITE.erl add cases such as list_bindings_source_read and list_bindings_destination_write that assert an error_unauthorized response when read access to the source exchange or write access to the destination queue has been revoked, plus ordering tests (get_bindings_destination_write_checked_first) confirming the destination write check is evaluated first. The affected CPE range cpe:2.3:a:rabbitmq:rabbitmq-server:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* reflects that all server releases in the vulnerable version window carry the flaw; exposure additionally requires that AMQP 1.0 connectivity and the management link-pair capability are available to the attacker's account.

2DescriptionCVE.org
RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. From 4.0.0 until 4.3.3, 4.2.9, 4.1.14, and 4.0.23, AMQP 1.0 management GET /bindings exposes full binding topology to any authenticated AMQP user without resource/management permission checks. the AMQP 1.0 HTTP-over-AMQP management endpoint GET /bindings (the rabbitamqpmanagement handler) enumerates bindings between an arbitrary source exchange and destination queue/exchange in the caller's virtual host without performing any resource-level permission check. Unlike every sibling operation in the same module (which call checkresourceaccess / bindingchecks), the GET handler ignores the authenticated User and returns the binding list unchanged. As a result, any authenticated AMQP 1.0 client that can open a management link pair , including users with no management/monitoring/policymaker/administrator tag , can enumerate the complete binding topology (source exchanges, destination queues/exchanges, routing keys, and binding arguments) of the virtual host they can access. The equivalent HTTP management API (GET /api/bindings) Confidentiality impact: a non-management AMQP 1.0 user can enumerate the complete routing topology of any virtual host it can connect to , every (source exchange, destination queue/exchange, routing key, binding arguments) This issue is fixed in versions 4.3.3, 4.2.9, 4.1.14, and 4.0.23.
