DescriptionCVE.org

The Customer Reviews for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the aggregated review form submission in versions up to and including 5.106.0. This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied review comment text. The plugin accepts review submissions from unauthenticated users through the 'cr_local_forms_submit' AJAX action without sanitizing HTML content before storing it via wp_insert_comment(), and later renders this stored content on product pages through comment_text() without proper escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers with a valid review form URL (obtainable through review reminder emails sent to customers who placed orders) to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses the affected product page.

AnalysisAI

Stored cross-site scripting in the Customer Reviews for WooCommerce WordPress plugin (versions up to and including 5.106.0) enables unauthenticated attackers to inject persistent malicious scripts into WooCommerce product pages, where they execute in every subsequent visitor's browser. The flaw resides in the 'cr_local_forms_submit' AJAX handler, which stores unsanitized HTML review text via wp_insert_comment() without sanitization and later renders it through comment_text() without output escaping - a textbook inject-store-render CWE-79 chain. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The attack requires the attacker to possess a valid review form URL for the targeted WooCommerce store; these URLs are embedded in review-reminder emails that the plugin automatically sends to customers after order completion, making them accessible to any individual who has ever placed an order on an affected store. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The reported CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.2 with vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N captures the network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated nature of the injection step and the scope change inherent in cross-site scripting. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation The primary remediation is to update the Customer Reviews for WooCommerce plugin to a version beyond 5.106.0; a fix has been committed to the WordPress plugin SVN repository as changeset 3510305 (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3510305/), though the specific released plugin version containing this fix is not explicitly stated in the available intelligence - administrators should verify the installed version against the WordPress.org plugin changelog before assuming patch coverage. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI
