| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated GLPI account (versions 11.0.5 through before 11.0.8) with legitimate permission to view at least one item; the attacker supplies that permitted item as the linkage context (itemtype/items_id) in a document-view request while targeting a document attached to an item they cannot access. The flaw is in the document permission path (canViewFileFromItem and checkAvailability in Document.php) which confirmed only that the document was linked to some item, not to the targeted accessible one. Limiting factors: valid credentials are required (no unauthenticated access), impact is confined to reading documents (no modification or DoS), and only environments storing sensitive attachments on access-restricted items are meaningfully at risk. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-severity authorization flaw, not a high-CVSS-but-hollow issue. The NVD CVSS 4.0 base score of 7.1 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N) correctly captures a network-reachable, low-complexity, authenticated flaw with confidentiality-only impact (no integrity or availability effect), which aligns with the description of unauthorized document reads. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC were provided; per rules this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis,' though the fix commit and its added regression test (testLinkedDocumentsCantBeViewedOnUnrelatedItem) effectively disclose the exploitation pattern, lowering the bar for a motivated attacker. No SSVC decision data was supplied. The key limiting factor is PR:L: the attacker must already be an authenticated GLPI user with legitimate view rights to at least one unrelated item, so this is a horizontal/privilege-scoped information-disclosure issue rather than a pre-auth breach. Real priority is moderate - meaningful for GLPI operators storing sensitive documents (contracts, incident attachments) but gated by requiring valid credentials. The 'Authentication Bypass' tag is misleading: CWE-639 and the fix confirm this is an authorization (IDOR/broken object-level access) flaw, not an authentication bypass. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated GLPI user with permission to view one item (e.g. a Form or Question they legitimately own) crafts a document-view request that references that permitted item as the linkage context while pointing at a document actually attached to an item they are not allowed to see. Because the permission check only confirmed the document was linked to *some* item rather than to the *targeted* accessible item, GLPI serves the restricted file. No public exploit code was identified, though the vendor's fix and added test case illustrate the exact technique. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 25, 2026
Authenticated users of GLPI 11.0.5 through 11.0.7 can read documents attached to items they are not authorized to access by supplying the itemtype and items_id of a different, legitimately viewable item as the linkage context in a document request. The flaw is an IDOR authorization bypass (CWE-639) in the document permission path, rated CVSS 4.0 7.1 (and CVSS 3.1 7.1 per independent assessment), with high confidentiality impact but no integrity or availability impact; valid credentials with permission to view at least one item are a prerequisite, and no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis. The issue is fixed in GLPI 11.0.8.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to GLPI 11.0.8, which contains the vendor-released patch (release tag 11.0.8, GitHub security advisory GHSA-q9rc-v6vm-q5mm, fix commit e984bf1ba435cee7319679df842c61b756baf191) that enforces hasLinkedItem() checks in both the item permission path and checkAvailability() in src/Document.php. If immediate upgrade is not possible on 11.0.5-11.0.7, compensating controls are limited because the bypass requires only a valid low-privileged account: restrict the population of documents attached to access-controlled items (move sensitive attachments to a segregated store or reduce attachment usage on restricted Forms/Questions), and audit GLPI logs and web-server access logs for document download requests whose itemtype/items_id parameters do not correspond to an item the requesting account can legitimately view, since exploitation manifests as a mismatched linkage context rather than anomalous volume - the trade-off is that such monitoring is detective, not preventive, and legitimate usage patterns may generate similar-looking requests. Tightening account provisioning (minimizing the number of accounts with any view permission, since the attacker needs at least one viewable item to supply as context) reduces but does not eliminate exposure, and restricting document storage permissions at the OS/filesystem layer does not help because the vulnerable check executes inside GLPI before the file is served.

Technical ContextAI · show details
GLPI is a PHP-based open-source IT asset management and helpdesk platform. Documents (file attachments) in GLPI can be linked to many item types via the documents_items relation table, and visibility of a document is supposed to be derived from the visibility of the item(s) it is attached to. In the vulnerable code, src/Document.php's canViewFileFromItem() checked only whether a document was linked to some item set matching the caller-supplied itemtype/items_id context, and checkAvailability() lacked any linkage check at all, meaning the query returned a count of matching links without confirming that the targeted document was actually attached to the item the requester is permitted to see. The fix (commit e984bf1ba435cee7319679df842c61b756baf191) refactors this into a new hasLinkedItem() private method that returns true only when the specific document is linked to the specific requested item, and adds a hasLinkedItem() guard inside checkAvailability() so that a document cannot be served when no matching link exists. The root cause class, CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key), is reflected in the attacker's ability to choose the itemtype/items_id key values presented during the document-view request. This is a pure authorization/confidentiality defect: disclosure of file contents, with no write or denial-of-service primitive.

GLPI is a free asset and IT management software package. From 11.0.5 until 11.0.8, under certain conditions, permission logic can grant access to a document without confirming that the document is linked to the targeted item. A user can use an unrelated item that the user is permitted to view to read a document linked to an inaccessible item. This issue is fixed in version 11.0.8.

Executive ViewAI
GLPI versions 11.0.5 through 11.0.7 contain an access-control flaw that allows any user holding valid credentials to retrieve documents attached to records they are not permitted to view, simply by referencing a different item they can legitimately see. Because the weakness requires only a normal login with view rights on a single item, the exposure scales with the number of staff, contractors, and third parties holding GLPI accounts. Leadership should treat this as a confidentiality risk to customer, employee, contract, and asset documentation stored in the platform, even though no data can be altered or deleted through this issue.
Apply vendor patch.
