MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the attacker to induce a victim to load a crafted Collabora Online editor URL containing a malicious host_session_id query/form parameter (UI:R); no authentication is required of the attacker (PR:N). The primary limiting factor is Content Security Policy: the injected HTML always reflects into cool.html, but script execution (and thus theft of the session authentication token and page contents) occurs only in the absence of an effective CSP. Because coolwsd sends a CSP header by default, full script-execution exploitation realistically requires a deployment where a reverse proxy strips or fails to preserve that header - the vendor-stated workaround is ensuring the reverse proxy does not strip the coolwsd CSP. Affected: Collabora Online coolwsd before 24.04.18 and before 25.04.11. |
| Impact | This is a medium-severity reflected cross-site scripting / HTML-injection issue (NVD CVSS 3.1 base 4.7, vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N). The network vector and lack of required privileges (PR:N) make it remotely reachable by unauthenticated attackers, but UI:R means a victim must be induced to open an attacker-crafted URL, which bounds mass, automated exploitation. No EPSS score was supplied, the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV, and no public exploit was provided in the input (only the GHSA advisory and the fix commit are referenced), so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month', i.e. a patch-this-cycle priority rather than an emergency. A notable signal conflict exists: NVD scored confidentiality impact as C:N, yet the vendor advisory explicitly states the flaw exposes the session authentication token and page contents - that is a confidentiality exposure, so the NVD C:N rating appears to understate real impact and should be verified. A second mitigating factor is central to real-world risk: script execution only occurs 'in the absence of an effective Content Security Policy', and coolwsd emits a CSP by default, so a default deployment behind a reverse proxy that preserves that header is largely protected against the script-execution path. Net assessment: a genuine but conditional medium-risk issue, not a drop-everything emergency, and worth patching within the current cycle especially where reverse-proxy CSP handling is uncertain. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a Collabora Online editor URL in which the host_session_id query/form parameter carries an HTML/script payload and lures a victim (e.g. an authenticated document user) into opening it. Because host_session_id is substituted into cool.html without HTML encoding, the payload is reflected into the editor page; where no effective Content Security Policy is enforced, the injected script runs in the Collabora Online iframe's origin and can read the session authentication token and page contents. No public proof-of-concept was provided in the input, and successful script execution additionally depends on the target deployment lacking an effective CSP. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 30, 2026
Reflected HTML injection in Collabora Online's cool.html editor page allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to inject markup through the host_session_id query/form parameter, which was substituted without HTML encoding; exploitation requires inducing a victim to load a crafted URL. Script execution and theft of the session authentication token and page contents occur only when an effective Content Security Policy is absent, and coolwsd sends a CSP header by default, so realistic script-execution exploitation requires a reverse proxy that strips or fails to preserve that header. The issue affects coolwsd before 24.04.18 and before 25.04.11 and is fixed in those releases; no CISA KEV entry or public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and the vendor rates it medium severity (NVD CVSS 3.1 base 4.7).
RemediationAI
Upgrade Collabora Online to 24.04.18 or 25.04.11 or higher, as specified in advisory GHSA-wgmm-q3ch-64jj; the upstream fix is commit 2d4469d27f0c52f4b28b64090e60452d2e147279. As a vendor-stated workaround, ensure that any reverse proxy in front of Collabora Online does not strip the Content Security Policy header sent by coolwsd, since preserving that header blocks the script-execution scenario even though the HTML injection itself is reflected.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Collabora Online's coolwsd server renders the cool.html editor page and substitutes request parameters into the HTML template. The host_session_id parameter was passed directly through Poco::replaceInPlace into the %WOPI_HOST_ID% placeholder, bypassing the existing UserRequestVars variable-encoding mechanism used for other parameters, so attacker-controlled HTML could be reflected into the page. The upstream commit adds a WOPI_HOST_ID variable and routes host_session_id through extractVariable(form, "host_session_id", WOPI_HOST_ID), applying the same encoding as other variables. This is a reflected cross-site scripting/HTML-injection flaw (CWE-79; the GitHub advisory lists CWE-80) whose impact depends on CSP: injected HTML is reflected regardless, but script execution in the Collabora Online iframe origin, and the resulting exposure of the session authentication token and page contents, is blocked when an effective Content Security Policy is present. The vendor notes that a reverse proxy preserving the CSP header sent by coolwsd mitigates the script-execution scenario.

Lifecycle Timeline
2DescriptionCVE.org
Collabora Online is a collaborative online office suite based on LibreOffice technology. Prior to 24.04.18 and 25.04.11, the host_session_id query/form parameter is substituted into the cool.html editor page without HTML encoding, unlike parameters passed through the existing variable-encoding mechanism. An attacker who induces a victim to load a crafted URL can inject HTML and, in the absence of an effective Content Security Policy, execute scripts in the Collabora Online iframe's origin, exposing the session authentication token and page contents. A reverse proxy that preserves the Content Security Policy header sent by coolwsd mitigates the script-execution scenario. This issue is fixed in versions 24.04.18 and 25.04.11.
