Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an authenticated Redash account (versions after 8.0.0 through pre-26.9.0) holding at least view-only access to BOTH the Query Results data source AND the referenced data source. The attacker must invoke the Query Results query runner using param_query_N_{key=value} parameters, which route through the vulnerable replace_query_parameters() raw-substitution path that bypasses ParameterizedQuery schema validation and omits the is_safe permission check. The primary limiting factors are the dual data-source access requirement and the need for valid authentication (PR:L), meaning this is realistically an insider or compromised-account scenario rather than anonymous remote exploitation; environments where low-privilege users are granted view-only access to sensitive referenced data sources are most at risk.

Impact

This is a genuine, prioritizable issue rather than a high-CVSS paper risk, though not a drop-everything emergency. The CVSS 4.0 vector (CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H, score 8.7) indicates a network-reachable, low-complexity attack requiring only low privileges and no user interaction, with high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the referenced data source. The key limiting signal is PR:L: exploitation requires an authenticated Redash user who holds at least view-only access to BOTH the Query Results data source and the referenced data source, so this is an insider/privilege-escalation-within-the-app risk, not an anonymous internet attack. EPSS is not provided in the input, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified. This is NOT on CISA KEV and no public exploit was supplied - only the fixing commit and GHSA advisory - so there is no evidence of active exploitation. The confirmed source-code diff (removal of raw replace_query_parameters() in favor of ParameterizedQuery with an is_safe/not_view_only permission check) strongly corroborates the vulnerability as described and real. Net: credible, well-evidenced authenticated SQLi worth patching promptly in any multi-tenant/shared Redash deployment, but the PR:L gating keeps real-world mass-exploitation risk below that of an unauthenticated flaw.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A low-privileged but authenticated Redash user with view-only access to the Query Results data source and a referenced query crafts a request supplying param_query_N_{key=value} parameters containing SQL metacharacters. Because the old code path performed raw string substitution via replace_query_parameters() and skipped both schema validation and the is_safe permission check, the attacker-controlled text is injected directly into the referenced query's SQL and executed with that data source's privileges, enabling data exfiltration or modification beyond the user's intended view-only scope. No public exploit code was provided, but the fixing commit diff reveals the vulnerable code path precisely.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026

SQL injection in Redash (versions after 8.0.0 through 26.9.0) lets an authenticated user with view-only access to both the Query Results data source and a referenced data source inject arbitrary SQL that runs with the referenced data source's privileges. The flaw lives in redash/query_runner/query_results.py, where param_query_N_{key=value} parameters were substituted into the target query's SQL via replace_query_parameters() rather than through the ParameterizedQuery schema validator, and where the is_safe permission check was skipped; the vendor CVSS 4.0 base score is 8.7, and no public exploit code or CISA KEV entry was identified at time of analysis. Because exploitation requires valid credentials plus dual data-source access, this is realistically an insider or compromised-account risk, with the greatest exposure in deployments that grant low-privilege users view-only access to sensitive referenced data sources.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Redash 26.9.0, which applies ParameterizedQuery schema validation and restores the is_safe/not_view_only permission check in the Query Results runner (commit 048bcd9fe7208e42f2f0cdf007d7e9dcb82829d8; see advisory GHSA-v43x-rgcc-wh77 and release notes at https://github.com/getredash/redash/releases/tag/v26.9.0). If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to restrict or revoke view-only access to the Query Results data source so that only fully trusted users can invoke param_query_N parameters; note the trade-off that this removes a legitimate self-service capability for dashboard consumers. Alternatively, disable or remove the Query Results data source entirely, at the cost of breaking any dashboards or scheduled queries that depend on it. Audit existing saved queries and the query_results.py runner usage, and rotate or review credentials for any referenced data source whose account could be abused if a low-privilege user already met the dual-access prerequisite; also review activity logs for anomalous param_query_ parameters or unexpected SQL reaching referenced data sources. Because no public exploit code was identified at the time of analysis, patching can be scheduled through normal change management, but environments where low-privilege accounts can reach sensitive referenced data sources should prioritize it.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Redash is a self-hosted data visualization and dashboarding platform that connects to external databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, and others) as 'data sources'. A special Query Results data source lets one saved query reference the cached results of another saved query via a param_query_N_{key=value} parameter that is substituted into a template such as '{{token}}'. The vulnerable code path (CWE-89, improper neutralization of special elements used in an SQL statement) took the raw parameter string, parsed it with parse_qs, and performed a string-level .replace() of each placeholder in the referenced query's text before executing it. This bypassed the ParameterizedQuery abstraction that normal query execution uses for schema validation (parameter types such as number/text) and also omitted the is_safe flag check that would otherwise require not_view_only access to the underlying data source. The upstream fix replaces the manual substitution with ParameterizedQuery(query_text, query.parameters, query.org), calls parameterized.apply(parameters), and raises PermissionError when the parameter set is unsafe and the user lacks full (non-view-only) access - the accompanying unit tests confirm that invalid parameters now raise InvalidParameterError and that view-only users are blocked from text parameters.

DescriptionCVE.org

Redash is a package for data visualization and sharing. From versions after 8.0.0 until 26.9.0, the Query Results query runner in redash/query_runner/query_results.py accepts param_query_N_{key=value} parameters and passed attacker-controlled values to replace_query_parameters() for raw substitution into a referenced query's SQL. This path bypassed the ParameterizedQuery schema validation used by normal query execution and omitted the is_safe permission check. An authenticated user with at least view-only access to both the Query Results data source and the referenced data source could therefore inject SQL through text parameters and execute it with the referenced data source's privileges. This issue is fixed in version 26.9.0.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Redash, the SQL query and dashboard platform, carries a high-severity SQL injection flaw (CVSS 8.7) in versions after 8.0.0 through 26.9.0 that lets a user holding view-only access to both the Query Results data source and a referenced data source run arbitrary SQL with the referenced source's privileges - so a single low-privilege or compromised account can reach data it was never meant to see. With no vendor patch available and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, the realistic exposure is insider misuse or credential compromise rather than broad opportunistic attack. Leadership should care because sensitive analytical data, and potentially regulated records sitting behind connected data sources, can be accessed without the existing permission checks ever firing.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis; interim mitigations: remove or downgrade combined view-only access to the Query Results data source and referenced data sources, run referenced data sources with least-privilege read-only credentials, enable and monitor Redash query logs for param_query_ parameter abuse, restrict network access from Redash to required database endpoints only, and enforce SSO with MFA to reduce credential-compromise risk.
