DescriptionCVE.org

A command injection vulnerability was identified in TP-Link TL-WR802N v4, TL-WR841N v14, and TL-WR840N v6 due to improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command. In the router configuration import function allows an authenticated attacker to upload a crafted configuration file that results in execution of OS commands with root privileges during port-trigger processing. Successful exploitation allows an authenticated attacker to execute system commands with root privileges, leading to full device compromise.

AnalysisAI

Authenticated attackers can achieve root-level command execution on TP-Link TL-WR802N v4, TL-WR841N v14, and TL-WR840N v6 routers by uploading a malicious configuration file through the import function, exploiting improper input validation in the port-trigger processing logic. Successful exploitation grants complete control over the affected device, allowing full compromise of the router and any connected network. A patch is available for this high-severity vulnerability.

Technical ContextAI

Command injection allows an attacker to execute arbitrary OS commands on the host system through a vulnerable application that passes user input to system shells. This vulnerability is classified as OS Command Injection (CWE-78).

RemediationAI

A vendor patch is available — apply it immediately. Avoid passing user input to system commands. Use language-specific APIs instead of shell commands. If unavoidable, use strict input validation and escaping.
