Chamilo LMS is a learning management system. Prior to 1.11.38, there is a path traversal in main/exercise/savescores.php leading to arbitrary file feletion. User input from $_REQUEST['test'] is concatenated directly into filesystem path without canonicalization or traversal checks. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.11.38.
AnalysisAI
Path traversal in Chamilo LMS main/exercise/savescores.php enables authenticated attackers to delete arbitrary files on the server. Vulnerable versions prior to 1.11.38 fail to sanitize the 'test' parameter from $_REQUEST, allowing directory traversal sequences to escape intended paths and target critical system or application files. Attackers with low-level authenticated access can exploit this remotely without user interaction, resulting in high integrity and availability impact through targeted file deletion.
Technical ContextAI
CWE-22 path traversal vulnerability stems from direct concatenation of unsanitized $_REQUEST['test'] input into filesystem operations within the exercise score-saving module. Absence of path canonicalization or traversal sequence filtering permits ../ sequences to escape intended directories. The PHP application directly processes user-supplied path components without validating against a whitelist or resolving to absolute paths.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: 1.11.38. Immediately upgrade all Chamilo LMS installations to version 1.11.38 or later, which implements input validation and canonicalization controls for the vulnerable savescores.php endpoint. The fix is delivered via commit 4dddcc19d36119da27b7c49eb84a035800abae78, available at https://github.com/chamilo/chamilo-lms/commit/4dddcc19d36119da27b7c49eb84a035800abae78. Full release notes and upgrade instructions: https://github.com/chamilo/chamilo-lms/releases/tag/v1.11.38. Until patching, restrict authenticated user privileges and monitor filesystem access logs for anomalous path patterns containing traversal sequences. No public exploit identified at time of analysis.
