AnalysisAIv1 – Mar 12, 2026

Remote code execution in Manyfold prior to version 0.133.0 allows authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands by uploading a ZIP archive with specially crafted filenames containing shell metacharacters that are passed unsanitized to Ruby backtick execution. The vulnerability affects the model render generation feature and requires an attacker to be logged in, with public exploit code currently available. A patch is available in version 0.133.0 and later.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Classified as CWE-78 (OS Command Injection). Affects Manyfold. Manyfold is an open source, self-hosted web application for managing a collection of 3d models, particularly focused on 3d printing. Prior to version 0.133.0, when model render generation is enabled, a logged-in user can achieve RCE by uploading a ZIP containing a file with a shell metacharacter in its name. The filename reaches a Ruby backtick call unsanitized. Version 0.133.0 fixes the issue.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

A high-severity vulnerability (CVE-2026-27635) affecting Manyfold, an open-source 3D model management application, poses a significant risk to organizations using this self-hosted solution. Public exploits are available, increasing the likelihood of active exploitation. Organizations must take immediate action to assess exposure and implement interim protections, as vendor patches are not yet available.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

Implement network-level access controls restricting Manyfold to internal networks only; deploy Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules targeting CVE-2026-27635 attack signatures; enforce multi-factor authentication for all Manyfold access; isolate Manyfold instances on a segregated VLAN; implement real-time log monitoring and alerting for suspicious activities; consider disabling public/external access to affected Manyfold instances until patch availability; maintain offline backups of critical 3D model data.
