The SMS Alert - SMS & OTP for WooCommerce, Order Notifications & Abandoned Cart Recovery plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL Injection via the 'orderby' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.9.7 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrator-level access and above, to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database.
AnalysisAI
Time-based SQL injection in the SMS Alert plugin for WordPress allows authenticated administrators to extract sensitive database information. Affected are all versions up to 3.9.7. No public exploit or active exploitation has been identified at this time.
Technical ContextAI
The vulnerability is a classic SQL injection (CWE-89) in a WordPress plugin that provides SMS and OTP functionality for WooCommerce. The 'orderby' parameter in the backinstock.php file is insufficiently escaped and queries are not properly prepared, allowing an attacker with admin access to inject arbitrary SQL. The CPE indicates all versions up to 3.9.7 are vulnerable, covering installations on WooCommerce sites using SMS Alert.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to the latest patched version of the plugin from the WordPress repository. The vendor has provided a code fix via changeset (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&old=3623914%40sms-alert&new=3623914%40sms-alert), though the released patched version number is not independently confirmed in the available data. As a workaround, limit administrative access to trusted users only, as the vulnerability requires admin privileges.
