| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated vendor account on a nopCommerce installation running in multi-vendor mode - the vulnerable code path is only reachable when GetCurrentVendorAsync() returns a vendor (currentVendor != null), so single-admin stores without the vendor/marketplace feature are not affected. The attacker must hold vendor-level credentials (PR:L) and reach the admin ProductController AddPopup endpoints over the network. Limiting factors: it is not remote-unauthenticated (a valid vendor login is mandatory), impact is confined to the integrity of another vendor's related-product, cross-sell and associated/grouped-product listings, and there is no confidentiality or availability impact. Fixed by upgrading to nopCommerce 5.00.0 or later, which the vendor's patch commit enforces. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but modest-severity authorization flaw (CWE-639, insecure direct object reference), not a high-CVSS-but-hollow finding - the vendor-assigned CVSS 4.0 score of 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) accurately reflects a low-impact, integrity-only issue. The signals are internally consistent: network-reachable, low attack complexity, but requiring low-privilege authentication (PR:L) and yielding only limited integrity impact (VI:L) with no confidentiality or availability consequence. No EPSS score was supplied, the CVE is not in CISA KEV, and no exploit/PoC reference is tagged in the input, so there is no evidence of active exploitation; the vuln.today decision label is 'this_month', indicating routine prioritization rather than emergency response. The patch is confirmed available via the vendor commit. Real-world risk is bounded: an authenticated vendor on a multi-vendor nopCommerce store can tamper with another vendor's product-relationship listings, which is a trust/data-integrity problem within a marketplace rather than a path to code execution or data theft. Prioritize as a standard monthly patch cycle item, consistent with the 'this_month' decision label - not an emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | On a nopCommerce multi-vendor store, a malicious but legitimately registered vendor logs into the admin area and sends a request to the RelatedProductAddPopup, CrossSellProductAddPopup or AssociatedProductAddPopup handler, supplying a competitor's product id as model.ProductId. Because the handlers never verify that the parent product belongs to the requesting vendor, the attacker's products are injected into the victim vendor's related, cross-sell and grouped-product listings. No public working exploit is identified at the time of analysis, though the trigger is straightforward given a valid vendor account. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026
Missing authorization (CWE-639, insecure direct object reference) in nopCommerce before 5.00.0 lets an authenticated vendor manipulate the catalog listings of another vendor: the admin ProductController handlers RelatedProductAddPopup, CrossSellProductAddPopup and AssociatedProductAddPopup accept a caller-supplied model.ProductId without verifying that the referenced parent product belongs to the requesting vendor. By submitting a victim's product id, an attacker with vendor-level credentials can inject their own items into that product's related-products, cross-sell and grouped/associated-product lists, an integrity-only impact rated 5.3 under CVSS 4.0 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N, VC:N/VI:L/VA:N) and CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N on re-assessment. Exposure is limited to installations running in multi-vendor/marketplace mode, because the vulnerable branch only executes when GetCurrentVendorAsync() returns a vendor; single-admin stores are not affected, and no public exploit code or CISA KEV entry is associated with this issue at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: nopCommerce 5.00.0 - upgrade from any earlier version to 5.00.0 or later (release notes: https://github.com/nopSolutions/nopCommerce/releases/tag/release-5.00.0), which incorporates the ownership checks in ProductController.cs; the isolated upstream fix is commit fbdbe18d43b42b7e269f7118cfc9533349ed2dc0 (https://github.com/nopSolutions/nopCommerce/commit/fbdbe18d43b42b7e269f7118cfc9533349ed2dc0) and can be backported into custom builds, with the vendor tracking issue at https://github.com/nopSolutions/nopCommerce/issues/8417. Where upgrading is not immediately possible, the practical exposure reduction is to remove or suspend vendor-level admin accounts and to keep the store out of multi-vendor/marketplace mode, since the vulnerable branch is only reached when a current vendor is resolved - this removes the attack path but gives up marketplace functionality, and any previously injected related, cross-sell or grouped-product links should be reviewed and corrected after patching.

Technical ContextAI · show details
nopCommerce is an ASP.NET Core MVC e-commerce platform whose admin area is implemented as an MVC area (Nop.Web/Areas/Admin). The affected code lives in ProductController.cs, where the AddPopup endpoints (RelatedProductAddPopupList, CrossSellProductAddPopupList, AssociatedProductAddPopupList and their AddPopup POST counterparts) prepare product-selection views for three cross-product relationships: related products, cross-sell products and grouped/associated products. The root cause is CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key): the handlers used the client-supplied model.ProductId to load or populate the parent product context without first resolving that product and comparing its VendorId to the current vendor obtained from _workContext.GetCurrentVendorAsync(). The upstream fix commit fbdbe18d43b42b7e269f7118cfc9533349ed2dc0 inserts exactly that check into each handler, fetching the parent product via _productService.GetProductByIdAsync(model.ProductId), throwing when it does not exist, and returning 'This is not your product' when currentVendor is non-null and parentProduct.VendorId differs from the current vendor's id; the grouped-products handler additionally reorders the self-grouping validation so it runs after the ownership check. Because the guard is conditional on a non-null current vendor, the flaw is reachable only in multi-vendor deployments where the attacker holds a vendor account with access to the admin catalog endpoints; the trigger for the individual popup requests is the standard admin AJAX form post, and the requests are network-reachable (AV:N) with low privileges (PR:L) and no user interaction (UI:N).

DescriptionCVE.org
nopCommerce before 5.00.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in the admin ProductController RelatedProductAddPopup, CrossSellProductAddPopup and AssociatedProductAddPopup handlers that fail to verify parent product ownership. Authenticated vendors can submit another vendor's product id as model.ProductId to inject their products into the victim's related-products, cross-sell and grouped-product listings.
