| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that MacCMS v10's member password-recovery flow be reachable - i.e., the findpass_msg/findpass_reset endpoints and an email or SMS code-delivery channel are configured and enabled - which is a standard part of the member system. No authentication, user interaction, or special privileges are needed (PR:N/UI:N). The only practical prerequisites are: the target must be an existing registered member, and the attacker must know the victim's registered email address or phone number to supply as the reset identifier. The defect is present in default behavior on all versions before 2026.1000.4054; upgrading to that build is the fix, as the patch adds the recipient-binding and single-use-code checks. |
| Impact | This is a genuine high-priority issue, not an inflated high-CVSS score. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) describes fully remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity exploitation with no attack requirements, and the source diff confirms the mechanism: check_msg() never bound the recovery code to its intended recipient (msg_to), so any code the attacker legitimately receives validates against any victim. The vuln.today decision label is act_now and the flaw was reported by VulnCheck, both reinforcing priority. However, several real-world signals are MISSING from the input and should not be fabricated: no EPSS exploitation-probability score is provided, CVE is NOT listed as CISA KEV, and no confirmed public exploit code is indicated. So exploitation is highly plausible (the description is effectively a step-by-step recipe and the logic flaw is trivial) but not independently confirmed as occurring in the wild. The impact is scoped to account takeover (VC:H/VI:H, VA:N) - confidentiality and integrity of member accounts, with no direct availability impact. Net: treat as urgent because of trivial unauthenticated account takeover and a confirmed patch, while noting that widespread active exploitation is not evidenced by the supplied data. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated attacker with a working MacCMS v10 member-recovery endpoint requests a password-recovery code to their own email or phone via user/findpass_msg, receives a valid code, then calls user/findpass_reset supplying that same code together with a victim's email or phone. Because check_msg() does not verify the code was issued to the victim, the reset succeeds and the attacker sets a new password for the victim's account. No special skill or exploit tooling is required given AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N; no public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, though the advisory description fully details the technique. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 26, 2026
Unauthenticated account takeover in MacCMS v10 before 2026.1000.4054 lets any remote attacker reset the password of any registered member, because the password-recovery verification routine never binds the submitted code to the account it was issued for. An attacker requests a recovery code through user/findpass_msg delivered to their own mailbox or phone, then submits that code to user/findpass_reset together with the victim's registered email address or phone number, and the reset succeeds. No authentication, privileges, or user interaction are required (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N, vendor score 9.3); the only prerequisites are that the member system and its code-delivery channel are enabled and that the attacker knows the victim's registered identifier. Our assessment rates this a genuine high-priority issue rather than an inflated score, and the vendor has released a patch; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade MacCMS v10 to version 2026.1000.4054 or later, which is the fix per the vendor advisory; the corresponding upstream change is commit 27bb1b004b9931c93f46b65e9c0e531466e7e02a at https://github.com/magicblack/maccms10/commit/27bb1b004b9931c93f46b65e9c0e531466e7e02a, which adds recipient binding (msg_to must equal the supplied address) and single-use code consumption, also preventing concurrent replay. If upgrading cannot be done immediately, the actionable compensating control is to disable the member password-recovery entry points user/findpass_msg and user/findpass_reset (for example by removing or blocking those routes at the web server or application router) so no recovery codes can be minted or redeemed; the trade-off is that legitimate members lose self-service password recovery and must be handled manually by an administrator. Because exploitation requires no authentication and leaves no special privilege trail beyond the reset itself, also review recent member password resets and msg-table records for codes redeemed against identifiers that do not match the delivery address once the patched code is in place. Switching off the email/SMS delivery channel entirely also breaks the attack but degrades registration and notification mail, so route-level blocking is the narrower mitigation.

Technical ContextAI · show details
MacCMS is a PHP content-management system built on the ThinkPHP framework, and the flaw sits in the member (user) model at application/common/model/User.php (CWE-640, weak password recovery mechanism). In the affected code, check_msg() validates a submitted recovery code but never compares the msg_to column of the msg table against the recipient identifier supplied in the request; the recovery record is therefore valid for whichever account the attacker names at reset time rather than for the mailbox or phone number that received it. The findpass_reset() flow consequently accepts a code the attacker legitimately obtained for their own address and applies it to a victim's account. The upstream fix commit 27bb1b004b9931c93f46b65e9c0e531466e7e02a adds a msg_to equality condition and a msg_status=0 condition to the lookup, returns the matched msg_id from check_msg(), threads the recipient value into findpass_reset(), and adds an atomic single-use consume step (Db::name('msg')->where(['msg_id'=>$msg_id,'msg_status'=>0])->update(['msg_status'=>1])) that returns error 9002 if the row was not updated, closing the concurrent-replay window. Both CPE namespaces (maccmspro:maccms10 and magicblack:maccms10) refer to the same codebase.

DescriptionCVE.org
MacCMS v10 before 2026.1000.4054 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to reset any member's password because check_msg() never compares msg_to. Attackers can request a recovery code to their own mailbox via user/findpass_msg, then submit it to user/findpass_reset with the victim's email or phone to take over the account.
Executive ViewAI
A critical vulnerability in MacCMS v10 (before 2026.1000.4054) enables unauthenticated attackers to take over any member account, including administrative accounts if they are registered members, by exploiting a flaw in the password recovery process. This puts sensitive customer data, site integrity, and potentially backend systems at risk, and could lead to regulatory breaches and reputational damage. Leadership should prioritize immediate remediation.
