MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires a specific non-default deployment: ActivityPub must be enabled on at least one Bazar form AND the instance must already hold at least one entry mirrored from a third-party federated actor. The attacker must operate (or control a compromised) remote ActivityPub server that the admin syncs with, and a YesWiki administrator must initiate the sync via ?vue=abonnements&action=sync&idformulaire={id}&actor={uri} - or be lured into triggering it, since the sync uses GET with no CSRF token. Limiting factors: admin-level interaction is required (UI:P), the ActivityPub/Bazar federation feature must be configured, and the attacker gains no standing privileges on the target. The attacker needs zero privileges on the YesWiki instance itself. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but conditional priority, not an inflated high-CVSS score. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H, score 7.2) accurately captures a network-reachable flaw requiring no attacker privileges but requiring passive user interaction (UI:P) - a classic confused-deputy pattern where the YesWiki admin, not the attacker, performs the destructive action by initiating a sync. Integrity and availability impact are HIGH (forge/overwrite entries and mass-delete via garbage collection) while confidentiality is NONE, consistent with CWE-862 missing authorization. The vuln.today decision label is this_week, indicating elevated but not emergency urgency. KEV status is NOT present (no confirmed active exploitation) and no EPSS score was supplied, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified from the input. A detailed public PoC reference exists in the GHSA advisory (concrete malicious actor/outbox JSON and the exact sync URL), but the input does not confirm it as weaponized working exploit code. The main factor limiting real-world risk is the precondition stack: the target must have ActivityPub enabled on a Bazar form, hold at least one mirrored third-party entry, and an admin must initiate (or be CSRF-lured into) a sync with the attacker's actor. Net: credible, reporter-confirmed (VulnCheck + vendor GHSA) authorization flaw warranting prompt patching to 4.7.0, tempered by non-default configuration and required admin interaction. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker stands up a malicious (or compromised previously-trusted) ActivityPub server that returns a poisoned outbox containing cross-actor Delete, Update, or Create activities. When a YesWiki admin initiates a routine sync with the attacker's actor - or is lured into clicking a GET-based CSRF link, since the sync action carries no CSRF token - the unguarded syncActorPosts handler reaches EntryManager delete/update/create sinks with no assertOwns() or sameHost() checks, letting the attacker delete, overwrite, forge, or mass-delete entries mirrored from other federated actors. A detailed public PoC reference exists in the GHSA advisory; it is not verified as working exploit code. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 25, 2026
Missing authorization in YesWiki's ActivityPub outbox sync handler (ActivityPubService::syncActorPosts) lets an operator of a malicious federated ActivityPub server use a poisoned outbox to delete, overwrite, or forge wiki entries mirrored from other actors, with the administrator acting as a confused deputy. All releases from 4.6.2 through 4.6.7 are affected - 4.6.7 closed the equivalent holes in the inbox path via the GHSA-rm6r-grfg-4v78 fix but left the sync path unguarded - and the prerelease 5.0.0-alpha1 carries the same unguarded handler; version 4.7.0 contains the fix. Exploitation is conditional rather than ambient: ActivityPub must be enabled on at least one Bazar form, the instance must already hold a mirrored entry from a third-party actor, and an administrator must trigger the GET-based sync action (or be lured into it, since the action carries no CSRF token), while the attacker needs no privileges on the target instance. A proof-of-concept is documented in the upstream advisory, but it is not verified as working exploit code, and there is no confirmed active exploitation (no CISA KEV listing) at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to YesWiki 4.7.0, the first release that fixes the missing authorization in ActivityPubService::syncActorPosts; sites on 4.6.7 must upgrade because that release closed only the inbox path. If upgrading immediately is not possible, the compensating controls described in the advisory are: refrain from syncing with remote ActivityPub actors you do not fully trust, accepting that a previously trusted actor's server may itself be compromised so trust is not durable; and add a CSRF token requirement to the sync action, which blocks the cross-site luring vector but does not stop an administrator who deliberately initiates a sync with a hostile actor. Administrators who cannot patch should consider disabling ActivityPub on Bazar forms entirely until 4.7.0 is deployed, at the cost of losing federation. Applying the upstream code fix directly means adding assertOwns() and sameHost() checks to all three activity branches of syncActorPosts(), recording ownership with rememberOwner() on sync-created entries, and changing the garbage-collection deletion from host-scoped to per-actor ownership verification; note that the ownership data needed by those checks is only populated for entries created after rememberOwner() is in place.

Technical ContextAI · show details
YesWiki's Bazar extension implements ActivityPub federation so that entries in a Bazar form can be mirrored from remote actors. Two code paths reach the same destructive sinks in tools/bazar/services/ActivityPubService.php: the inbox handler processActivity(), which after commit 6431f3c enforces sameHost() on Create and assertOwns() on Update and Delete, and the outbox sync handler syncActorPosts(), which enforces none of them. The root cause is CWE-862 Missing Authorization: the sync loop iterates attacker-controlled OrderedCollection items and passes objectId values unvalidated from remote JSON into a TripleStore lookup and then into EntryManager::delete() with $forceEvenIfNotOwner=true, EntryManager::create() without a sameHost() check, and EntryManager::update() without an ownership check; a garbage-collection loop (lines 387-402) additionally deletes every local entry whose source host matches the synced actor's host and is absent from the outbox, producing host-scoped mass deletion without per-actor ownership verification. Because the sync is invoked through a GET request (?vue=abonnements&action=sync&idformulaire={id}&actor={uri}) routed by BazarAction to FormController::syncActorPosts, with admin authentication checked at FormController.php:269 but no CSRF token, the mechanism is a classic confused-deputy pattern: the administrator authorizes fetching only the named actor's outbox, yet the handler applies that actor's instructions to entries owned by unrelated federated actors. The advisory's suggested fix is to mirror the inbox guards (assertOwns(), sameHost(), rememberOwner()) in the sync path and to make the garbage-collection step ownership-aware rather than host-scoped; the trigger specifics for every deployment mode beyond the two documented code paths are not described in the available sources.

Executive ViewAI
CVE-2026-116208 is a high-severity authorization flaw in YesWiki's ActivityPub outbox sync handler that allows a malicious federated server operator to delete, overwrite, or forge mirrored wiki content via a poisoned outbox, with the administrator unknowingly acting as a confused deputy. Organizations running affected YesWiki versions (4.6.2 through 4.6.7 and 5.0.0-alpha1) with ActivityPub enabled are at risk of data integrity compromise and unauthorized content manipulation. Leadership should prioritize remediation because this vulnerability can undermine the trustworthiness of wiki data and potentially disrupt operations reliant on federated content.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations include disabling ActivityPub on all Bazar forms to eliminate the attack vector, restricting access to the sync action to trusted IP ranges or authenticated administrators via web server rules, and monitoring for unauthorized changes to mirrored wiki entries.
