MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a valid authenticated DaybydayCRM session as any user, including a low-privileged employee account (PR:L) - no admin or special permission is needed, which is precisely the defect. No special product configuration or non-default deployment mode is required; the vulnerable updateAssign() route is reachable in a standard installation of versions up to and including 2.2.1. The attacker must know or enumerate a target project's external_id used in /projects/updateassign/{external_id}. The limiting factor is that exploitation is not possible by a completely unauthenticated outsider - a registered account is mandatory - making this primarily an insider/privilege-abuse risk. |
| Impact | This is a moderate, authenticated-access authorization flaw rather than a high-urgency crisis. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) confirms it is network-reachable over HTTP with low complexity but requires a valid, low-privileged account (PR:L), and impact is limited to integrity (VI:L) with no confidentiality or availability loss (VC:N/VA:N) - consistent with the base score of 5.3 and with CWE-862 (Missing Authorization). Key exploitation signals are absent or point to lower urgency: no CISA KEV listing is present (not actively exploited per the input), no EPSS probability was supplied, and the input does not mark a confirmed working exploit. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month' (not act_now/emergency), aligning with a patch-on-your-normal-cycle priority rather than an emergency. The realistic risk is an insider/privilege-abuse scenario: any authenticated employee can reassign projects they should not control. Missing data to note explicitly: EPSS score is not provided, so widespread-exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified, and no independent exploitation evidence exists beyond the documented request pattern. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged employee with a valid DaybydayCRM account sends a crafted PATCH or POST request to /projects/updateassign/{external_id} with a chosen user_assigned_id, reassigning project ownership and redirecting notifications despite lacking the can-assign-new-user-to-project permission. Factoring in AV:N/AC:L/PR:L, this needs only an authenticated session and knowledge of a project's external_id. No public exploit code is confirmed in the input, but the VulnCheck advisory and GitHub issue #347 fully document the vulnerable endpoint and request. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 24, 2026
DaybydayCRM through 2.2.1 lets any authenticated account - including a low-privileged employee - take over project assignment by sending a PATCH or POST request to /projects/updateassign/{external_id} with an arbitrary user_assigned_id, because ProjectsController::updateAssign() never enforces the can-assign-new-user-to-project permission. The impact is a limited-integrity authorization bypass: project ownership and the notifications that follow can be redirected to an attacker-chosen user, while no data is disclosed and availability is unaffected (CVSS 5.3, CWE-862). A valid session plus knowledge or enumeration of a target project's external_id is required, no public exploit code was identified at the time of analysis, and the issue is not listed in CISA KEV.
RemediationAI
Apply the upstream authorization fix from https://github.com/Bottelet/DaybydayCRM/pull/362 (commit 20a161e6c3e7ad60ee0430678bcbace593dfd1d8), which adds the can('can-assign-new-user-to-project') gate to ProjectsController::updateAssign() and the equivalent can-assign-new-user-to-task and can-assign-new-user-to-lead gates to the Tasks and Leads assignment methods; the patch is available from the vendor, and no numbered release containing it is identified in the available data, so confirm the tag or build you deploy includes commit 20a161e6. Because the same change set also closes a document access-control flaw (CWE-639) in DocumentsController, deploying only a partial backport of the project check leaves the document issue open. Where immediate upgrade is not possible, gate the /projects/updateassign/{external_id} route (and the sibling task/lead assignment routes) behind the corresponding can-assign-new-user permissions or restrict it to trusted roles, accepting that this is a temporary measure until the vendor patch is installed.

Technical ContextAI · show details
DaybydayCRM (Bottelet/DaybydayCRM) is an open-source, Laravel/PHP-based CRM whose access model is built on granular permissions seeded in PermissionsTableSeeder.php and checked in controllers via Laravel's can() gate. Sibling methods such as updateStatus() already invoke the corresponding can-assign-new-user-to-* checks, but updateAssign() in ProjectsController was written without one - a classic CWE-862 missing authorization defect in which the endpoint performs a state-changing action based only on the presence of an authenticated session. The same omission existed in TasksController::updateAssign() and LeadsController::updateAssign(), and the upstream fix (PR #362, commit 20a161e6c3e7ad60ee0430678bcbace593dfd1d8) adds can('can-assign-new-user-to-project') and its task/lead counterparts; the same pull request separately remediates a CWE-639 document IDOR in DocumentsController by introducing a canAccessDocument() ownership helper based on the sourceable morphTo relationship. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:bottelet:daybydaycrm:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* reflects that the vendor's versioning does not scope the flaw to a single release line.

DescriptionCVE.org
DaybydayCRM through 2.2.1 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in ProjectsController::updateAssign() that allows any authenticated user to reassign projects without the can-assign-new-user-to-project permission. Low-privileged employees can send PATCH or POST requests to /projects/updateassign/{external_id} with a chosen user_assigned_id to redirect project ownership and notifications.
