Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated super-admin account (CVSS PR:H) and access to the webhook testing feature (the 'Test Webhooks' function) in Snipe-IT before 8.7.0. The attacker must be able to set an arbitrary webhook target URL and observe the differential HTTP responses (4xx vs 5xx). Limiting factors: exploitation is gated behind the highest privilege level, so no unauthenticated or low-privilege attacker can trigger it; impact is confined to internal network reconnaissance rather than data exfiltration or code execution, and the fix in 8.7.0 removes the primitive.

Impact

This is a medium-severity, defense-in-depth issue rather than an urgent priority. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:L/SC:L/SI:N/SA:L, score 5.1) is dominated by the PR:H requirement: exploitation requires an authenticated super-admin, the highest privilege tier in Snipe-IT. No EPSS score was supplied, the CVE is not on CISA KEV, and no public exploit code is referenced - so there are no signals of active or imminent widespread exploitation. The real-world impact is limited to internal reconnaissance (port/host mapping via 4xx vs 5xx response discrimination, consistent with CWE-203 observable discrepancy), not direct code execution or data theft. The key caveat: because the attacker must already be super-admin, this is primarily useful as a pivot/lateral-reconnaissance primitive by an already-trusted or compromised admin account, which substantially narrows the realistic threat. Signals are internally consistent (high privilege, low technical impact, no exploitation evidence), so there is no major conflict to flag; the main missing data points are EPSS and any POC status.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A super-admin account (either malicious insider or an attacker who has already phished/hijacked admin credentials) configures a webhook URL pointing at an internal address such as http://127.0.0.1:port or an RFC1918 host, then uses the Test Webhook feature repeatedly. By comparing 4xx versus 5xx responses, they enumerate which internal hosts and ports are live, mapping the internal network from the application server's vantage point. No public exploit code is referenced, so this would currently require manual, hands-on-keyboard abuse by a privileged user.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 21, 2026

Authenticated super-admins in Snipe-IT before 8.7.0 can abuse the 'Test Webhooks' feature as a blind server-side request forgery primitive to probe internal network addresses, including loopback and RFC1918 ranges. By pointing a webhook at an arbitrary internal host and port and then comparing the 4xx versus 5xx responses returned by the test function, an attacker can map live hosts and open ports across the internal network. Rated 5.1 (medium) with PR:H, this is a defense-in-depth and reconnaissance issue rather than an urgent priority: exploitation is gated behind the highest privilege tier, the impact is confined to information disclosure through port/host enumeration, and there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The SSRF primitive is removed in Snipe-IT 8.7.0.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Snipe-IT 8.7.0 or later, which removes the SSRF primitive from the webhook testing path; see the GitHub advisory at https://github.com/grokability/snipe-it/security/advisories/GHSA-wqfr-w9hp-c7v6 and the VulnCheck advisory for confirmation. If upgrading immediately is not possible, apply compensating controls with explicit trade-offs: restrict super-admin accounts to a small, audited set and remove webhook configuration rights from anyone who does not strictly need them (reduces exposure but does not eliminate the primitive for remaining admins); enforce outbound egress filtering on the Snipe-IT host so the application cannot reach loopback, link-local, or RFC1918 destinations, and allow only explicitly approved webhook endpoints (effective against the scan, but requires maintaining an allowlist and will break legitimate internal integrations); or disable/block access to the 'Test Webhooks' function at the reverse proxy or by removing the route until the upgrade is applied (neutralizes the oracle entirely, at the cost of losing webhook diagnostics). Because the response differential between 4xx and 5xx is the core signal, normalizing error output alone is not a reliable substitute for patching. There is no indication of active exploitation, so remediation can be scheduled through normal change management rather than emergency response.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Snipe-IT (grokability/snipe-it) is a PHP/Laravel IT asset management application in which super-admins can configure outbound webhooks and use a 'Test Webhooks' action that causes the server itself to issue an HTTP request to an operator-supplied URL. Because the destination is not validated against private address space, the application server acts as a request proxy into networks the attacker cannot reach directly - a classic SSRF (server-side request forgery) pattern, here exploited in a blind form. The assigned CWE-203 (Observable Discrepancy) describes the enabling root cause more than the SSRF itself: the test endpoint returns distinguishable HTTP status codes depending on whether the outbound connection succeeded and what the target responded, so the 4xx-versus-5xx differential becomes an oracle. A reachable service that answers (even with an error) behaves differently from a closed port or filtered address, letting the attacker infer network topology without ever seeing response bodies. The underlying risk class therefore combines SSRF with an information-leaking error-handling discrepancy; the independent assessment scores it CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:N, reflecting a scope change (the vulnerable component reaches into other network segments) but only limited confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact.

DescriptionCVE.org

Snipe-IT before 8.7.0 contains a server-side request forgery vulnerability in the webhook testing feature that allows super-admin users to probe internal network addresses, including loopback and RFC1918 ranges. Attackers can point webhooks at internal hosts and ports, then compare 4xx versus 5xx responses from Test Webhooks to map open ports and active hosts.
