MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a valid authenticated account on the Vanus gateway (PR:L) and a multi-tenant deployment where the attacker can reference another tenant's subscription ID; the gateway's streaming RPCs (Subscribe, Ack) and unregistered methods perform no per-resource permission check, so exploitation needs no special non-default configuration beyond having more than one tenant/user. Limiting factors: the attacker must already be authenticated (single-tenant or single-user deployments have no cross-tenant victim to target), and impact is scoped to event data access, subscription hijack/denial, and user enumeration rather than host compromise. Affected only in versions 0.8.0 through 0.9.0. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but bounded authorization flaw rather than an inflated high-CVSS issue. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:L/VA:L) scores 7.2 and is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable gateway RPCs, low attack complexity, and only low privileges (any valid authenticated/tenant account) required, yielding high confidentiality impact (reading another tenant's events and enumerating cluster users) plus lower integrity and availability impact (acking/hijacking subscriptions and starving consumers). No EPSS score, KEV listing, or SSVC decision data was supplied, and no public exploit code was referenced - the references are the vendor source-code locations, a GitHub issue, and the VulnCheck advisory, which document the defect but are not weaponized exploits. Exploitation status is therefore 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis'; do NOT treat the VulnCheck advisory as evidence of in-the-wild use. Net priority is moderate: trivially exploitable by any authenticated tenant in multi-tenant deployments, but the real-world blast radius is constrained by Vanus's niche footprint and the precondition of already holding a valid account. Missing signals (EPSS, KEV, confirmed patched version) should be verified with the vendor before final prioritization. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged but authenticated tenant on a shared Vanus gateway calls the Subscribe RPC supplying another tenant's subscription ID; because the gateway interceptor performs no per-resource authorization check, the attacker hijacks that subscription, reads and acknowledges the victim's events (starving the legitimate consumer), and additionally calls ListUser to enumerate all cluster users. No public exploit code is referenced, but the vendor advisory and the cited interceptor/proxy source lines make the flaw straightforward to reproduce. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 18, 2026
Missing authorization in the Vanus gateway (versions 0.8.0 through 0.9.0) lets any authenticated user invoke Subscribe, Ack, and unregistered streaming RPCs without per-resource permission checks, enabling cross-tenant subscription hijacking, event read/acknowledgment, consumer starvation, and user enumeration via ListUser. Exploitation requires a valid account and a multi-tenant deployment with a targetable subscription ID; single-tenant or single-user deployments have no cross-tenant victim. No public exploit code or CISA KEV entry was identified at time of analysis, and the practical impact is bounded to event-data exposure, denial of the legitimate consumer, and user enumeration rather than host compromise.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released fixed version is identified in the provided data; track upstream issue 647 and the linked VulnCheck advisory for a patched release. Until a fix is available, restrict gateway access to trusted tenants and networks, avoid multi-tenant deployments where untrusted users can authenticate, and place an authorization proxy or gateway policy in front of Subscribe and Ack that verifies the caller owns the supplied subscription ID, with the trade-off of added latency and operational overhead. Audit gateway logs for cross-tenant subscription IDs and unexpected ListUser calls, and consider disabling or tightly restricting unregistered-method dispatch if the gateway supports it, with the trade-off that clients relying on dynamic methods may break. Network segmentation and least-privilege credentials are useful compensating controls, but they do not fix the missing per-resource authorization.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Vanus is an event-streaming platform whose gateway exposes gRPC streaming methods such as Subscribe and Ack and dispatches unregistered methods. The authentication interceptor in internal/gateway/auth/interceptor.go and the auth logic in auth.go establish user identity, but the gateway proxy in proxy.go does not enforce tenant or resource ownership before acting on caller-supplied subscription IDs, which is a CWE-862 missing authorization flaw. Because Subscribe accepts an externally supplied subscription ID, an authenticated tenant can attach to another tenant's subscription, consume and acknowledge its events, and starve the legitimate consumer; ListUser also exposes cluster user enumeration. The issue is version-specific to 0.8.0 through 0.9.0 and requires a multi-tenant deployment; it is not a pre-authentication or host-compromise bug.

DescriptionCVE.org
Vanus 0.8.0 through 0.9.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in the gateway that allows any authenticated user to call Subscribe, Ack, and unregistered methods without permission checks. Attackers can supply another tenant's subscription ID to Subscribe to hijack it, read and acknowledge its events, starve the legitimate consumer, and enumerate cluster users via ListUser.
Executive ViewAI
Vanus gateway versions 0.8.0 through 0.9.0 lack per-resource authorization for Subscribe, Ack, and unregistered streaming RPCs, creating cross-tenant subscription hijacking, event read/acknowledgment, consumer starvation, and user-enumeration risks in multi-tenant deployments. Leadership should care because this can expose tenant event data and disrupt event delivery for legitimate consumers, affecting customer trust and operational reliability, while single-tenant or single-user deployments have no cross-tenant victim. No public exploit identified at time of analysis.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations include restricting Vanus gateway access to trusted identities; isolating or segmenting multi-tenant gateway deployments; blocking or restricting unregistered streaming RPCs; monitoring and alerting on Subscribe, Ack, and ListUser anomalies; reviewing and minimizing exposure of subscription IDs; rotating credentials for gateway-accessible accounts; and disabling affected multi-tenant functionality until vendor guidance is available.
