MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Defense Evasion The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated Admidio account (PR:L) that has been granted list view rights for a group/role but intended to be denied export rights - the attacker simply requests the groups/roles list with mode=pdfl, which the groups_roles_export authorization check fails to validate. Limiting factors: the attacker must already possess valid credentials and list view permission, so this is not exploitable by anonymous/unauthenticated users; the impact is bounded to downloading member lists as PDF (confidentiality of roster data), with no integrity or availability effect; it only matters in deployments that actually configure export restrictions, since environments granting export rights broadly would see no additional exposure. Affected deployments are Admidio 5.0.0 up to but not including 5.0.16. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but low-to-moderate priority issue, consistent with its CVSS 4.0 base score of 5.3 (Medium). The vector CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N indicates a network-reachable flaw with low attack complexity that requires existing authenticated access (PR:L) and yields only a limited confidentiality impact (VC:L) with no integrity or availability effect. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or SSVC decision data was provided in the input, and there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis - so the only real-world exploitation signal is the structural simplicity of the bypass (appending mode=pdfl), not evidence of actual exploitation. The impact is narrow: it allows an already-trusted user with list view rights to defeat an export restriction and download member lists as PDF, i.e., a policy/authorization bypass rather than privilege escalation or data breach of credentials. Net assessment: real but low-severity; prioritize patching in environments where export restrictions are relied upon for member-data privacy, but it does not warrant emergency response absent exploitation signals. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated Admidio user who has been granted list view rights but explicitly denied export rights navigates to the groups/roles list view and issues the request with mode=pdfl instead of a blocked export mode. Because the groups_roles_export check in modules/groups-roles/lists_show.php omits the pdfl case, the server proceeds to render and return the member list as a downloadable PDF, bypassing the intended export restriction. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, but the technique is trivial to reproduce by manually altering the request parameter. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 17, 2026
An authorization bypass in Admidio 5.0.0 through 5.0.15 lets an authenticated user with list-view rights download group and role member lists as PDF even when export permissions were deliberately withheld, because the groups_roles_export check in modules/groups-roles/lists_show.php does not account for the pdfl mode that the underlying PDF export routine honors. Only accounts already holding valid credentials plus list-view permission on the relevant group can exploit this, so the impact is limited to confidentiality of roster data (CVSS 4.0 base 5.3, assessed CVSS 3.1 5.3 with C:L/I:N/A:N) and only affects deployments that actually restrict exports. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Admidio 5.0.16 or later, which corrects the groups_roles_export authorization check in modules/groups-roles/lists_show.php so that the pdfl mode is subject to the same export permission decision; see advisories GHSA-86f5-rg96-frrj (https://github.com/Admidio/admidio/security/advisories/GHSA-86f5-rg96-frrj) and VulnCheck (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/admidio-5.0.0-before-5.0.16-authorization-bypass-via-pdfl-mode-in-lists-show-php). If upgrading is not immediately possible, the primary compensating control is to review and tighten group/role list-view grants, since the bypass only converts list-view rights into export rights: removing list view from untrusted accounts eliminates the exposure but also stops those users from seeing the roster in the web UI at all. Alternatively, block requests carrying mode=pdfl to modules/groups-roles/lists_show.php at the reverse proxy or WAF, or locally patch the mode allow-list to require the export permission for pdfl as well; the proxy rule may break legitimate PDF exports for users who do hold export rights, and any local code patch will be overwritten by the next Admidio update, so it should be tracked and dropped once 5.0.16 is deployed. Audit existing exported PDF rosters for evidence of unauthorized downloads by accounts lacking export permission.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Admidio is a PHP-based web application for managing memberships, groups, roles and related organizational data, and the affected code path is the group/role list rendering endpoint modules/groups-roles/lists_show.php. The root cause is a CWE-285 (Improper Authorization) flaw: the handler branches on a mode parameter and enforces an export permission gate named groups_roles_export, but the allowed-mode list omits 'pdfl'. When a request supplies mode=pdfl, the gate is skipped while the handler still dispatches into the PDF export/label rendering routine, so the permission check and the actual data-producing action disagree about which modes are exports. The vulnerability class is a classic format/parameter-based authorization bypass where a secondary output format is not covered by the primary access-control decision; it requires a valid session with list view rights (PR:L in both the CVSS 4.0 vector and the assessed CVSS 3.1 vector), is network-reachable (AV:N), has no user interaction (UI:N) and no integrity or availability impact, and therefore strictly leaks roster/group-membership data as PDF. CPE enumeration confirms admidio:admidio from 5.0.0 up to (excluding) 5.0.16.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
Admidio from 5.0.0 before 5.0.16 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows authenticated users to export lists despite export restrictions by requesting mode=pdfl. The groups_roles_export check in modules/groups-roles/lists_show.php omits pdfl, which later runs the pdf export, letting users with list view rights download member lists as PDF files.
