Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an attacker to lure a logged-in or visiting Admidio user into clicking a crafted link to system/redirect.php whose url GET parameter contains a javascript: scheme with an embedded decoy http:// segment that defeats the post-CVE-2021-43810 validation. No authentication is required of the attacker (PR:N), but successful exploitation is strictly gated on victim user interaction (UI:A) - the redirect link must be clicked. It is limited to Admidio instances running versions 4.0.12 through 4.3.17 or 5.0.0 through 5.0.14; version 5.0.15 and later contain the corrected validation.

Impact

This is a reflected cross-site scripting flaw whose real-world risk is moderate and bounded by its dependency on victim interaction. The provided CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A) confirms a network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated issue that nonetheless REQUIRES the victim to click an attacker-supplied redirect link (UI:A), and impact is confined to the subsequent system (SC:L/SI:L, with VC/VI/VA:N) - i.e. the victim's session in the Admidio origin, not the server itself. The base score of 5.1 reflects this limited, interaction-gated impact rather than a critical server compromise. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC are present in the supplied intelligence, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis; the only exploitation signals are the vendor/VulnCheck advisories describing the technique. A notable contextual signal is that this is explicitly an incomplete fix for CVE-2021-43810, meaning the javascript:-URL-with-http://-decoy bypass defeats an existing sanitization control - reflected XSS in a known redirect endpoint with a documented bypass raises the plausibility of opportunistic weaponization, but absence of KEV/EPSS data suggests this is not currently subject to widespread automated exploitation. Overall: a legitimate patch-worthy issue, not an emergency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a malicious URL to system/redirect.php containing a javascript: payload with an embedded decoy http:// segment that passes the endpoint's validation, then distributes it via phishing email, forum post, or chat to Admidio users. When a victim clicks the link, the script executes in the Admidio origin, enabling session cookie theft, CSRF token exfiltration, or actions performed as the victim. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, but the bypass technique is fully described in the vendor advisory.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 12, 2026

Reflected cross-site scripting in Admidio 4.0.12 through 4.3.17 and 5.0.0 through 5.0.14 allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of the Admidio origin by tricking a victim into clicking a crafted link to system/redirect.php with a malicious url parameter. The flaw stems from an incomplete fix for CVE-2021-43810 and can be exploited via a javascript: URL containing a decoy http:// segment that defeats validation. Exploitation requires user interaction (UI:A), and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: version 5.0.15 and later fixes the vulnerability by correcting the validation in system/redirect.php. Administrators should upgrade Admidio to 5.0.15 or later. For the 4.x branch, no fixed version is identified in the available data; upgrading to 5.0.15 is recommended if feasible. If upgrading is not immediately possible, consider temporarily disabling system/redirect.php via web server configuration (e.g., deny access to that file) or removing it if not used; this may break legitimate redirect functionality. Alternatively, deploy a web application firewall rule to block requests to system/redirect.php where the url parameter contains 'javascript:' (case-insensitive), but this can be evaded by encoding and may affect valid redirects. Refer to the vendor advisory at https://github.com/Admidio/admidio/security/advisories/GHSA-vxfg-x6vc-7w3w for details.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The vulnerability is a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) issue classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) in Admidio's system/redirect.php script. The script's url GET parameter is intended to be a destination for redirects, but its validation-originally introduced to fix CVE-2021-43810-can be bypassed by embedding a javascript: scheme alongside a decoy http:// segment. When a victim clicks a crafted redirect link, the script reflects the unsanitized input into the HTML response, causing the browser to execute JavaScript in the context of the Admidio origin. The assessed CVSS:3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N indicates network-based exploitation with no attacker authentication, but requires victim interaction; impact is limited to low confidentiality and integrity with a scope change. The affected component is identified by CPE cpe:2.3:a:admidio:admidio:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* across multiple versions.

DescriptionCVE.org

Admidio 4.0.12 through 4.3.17 and 5.0.0 before 5.0.15 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in system/redirect.php that allows unauthenticated attackers to inject JavaScript via the url GET parameter, due to an incomplete fix for CVE-2021-43810. Attackers can craft a javascript: URL containing a decoy http:// segment that passes validation and executes script in the Admidio origin when victims click the redirect link.
