| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires (1) a valid authenticated account on the Plane instance - PR:L, so any ordinary workspace member qualifies - and (2) the instance must host more than one workspace, since the attack crosses workspace boundaries; a single-workspace self-hosted deployment has nothing to pivot into. The attacker must know or enumerate a target issue UUID from another workspace and invoke the issue-relation (or the related cycle/module/sub-issue) endpoint with that UUID. Limiting factors: no code execution or availability impact, disclosure is confined to issue metadata surfaced through activity events, and no special non-default configuration is needed beyond the inherently multi-tenant hosting model. Fixed in 1.4.0 by scoping issue lookups to workspace__slug (and project_id where applicable). |
| Impact | This is a moderate, authorization-scoped issue rather than a critical priority. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N, base 5.4) is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable, low complexity, but requiring an authenticated low-privileged account (PR:L) and yielding only limited confidentiality and integrity impact with no availability impact. This matches CWE-639 (authorization bypass / IDOR) - the endpoint trusts user-supplied issue UUIDs without verifying workspace ownership. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code were provided; the GitHub artifacts present are the fix PR (#9269), the patch commit, the GHSA advisory, and the v1.4.0 release - these are remediation sources, NOT an exploit proof-of-concept, so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' Real-world risk is bounded by the deployment model: the flaw only matters on shared/multi-tenant Plane instances hosting multiple workspaces, and the practical impact is metadata disclosure (and spurious cross-tenant relation creation) via activity events rather than full data compromise or code execution. Net: a legitimate cross-tenant information-disclosure bug worth patching in multi-tenant SaaS/hosted deployments, but not an emergency for single-workspace self-hosted installs. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated user with any account on a shared, multi-tenant Plane instance calls the issue-relation endpoint and supplies the UUID of an issue belonging to a different workspace in the request body. Because the server does not confirm the target issue belongs to the caller's workspace, the relation is created and the victim workspace's issue metadata is leaked back through the resulting activity events. No public exploit code was identified; low attack complexity and no required user interaction make scripting this trivial for any instance tenant. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 05, 2026
Cross-workspace IDOR in Plane prior to 1.4.0 lets any authenticated workspace member create issue relations that link their own issues to issues owned by other workspaces on the same instance, exposing the targeted issue's metadata (titles, identifiers, activity/event data) through the resulting activity events. The flaw affects the issue-relation endpoint and the related cycle, module and sub-issue endpoints, all of which accepted caller-supplied issue UUIDs without confirming they belonged to the caller's workspace; exploitation requires a valid low-privilege account (PR:L) on a multi-workspace instance and knowledge or enumeration of a foreign issue UUID. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis and no EPSS or KEV signal was provided, so this is best treated as a moderate, authorization-scoped information-disclosure and integrity issue rather than an urgent remote-code-execution class bug. Vendor-released patch: 1.4.0.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to Plane 1.4.0 (https://github.com/makeplane/plane/releases/tag/v1.4.0), which scopes all affected issue lookups to workspace__slug and, for cycle and module attachment, also to project_id; the fix is carried in PR 9269 and commit 81d9873d7f1cf1d1252ed53c12dd33696be73a89, and the vendor advisory GHSA-8cvv-8jh5-g6mj supersedes any manual patching. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to run Plane as a single-workspace deployment (or disable additional workspace creation) so there is no cross-tenant boundary to exploit - the trade-off is loss of multi-tenancy and a possible migration effort. Where multi-tenancy must be retained, restrict account provisioning and workspace invitations to trusted users, since the attack strictly requires an authenticated account (PR:L), and audit relation-creation activity events for cross-workspace issue UUIDs as a detection measure; note that neither control removes the underlying defect and both leave the API reachable by any provisioned user. There is no configuration flag in the pre-1.4.0 code that enables workspace scoping on these endpoints, so patching or a network-level restriction on who can reach the API is the only complete fix.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Plane (makeplane/plane) is a Django/DRF-based open-source project management and issue-tracking tool typically deployed as a multi-tenant instance hosting several workspaces. The affected code is in the API view layer (apps/api/plane/api/views/issue.py, apps/api/plane/app/views/issue/relation.py, cycle/issue.py, module/issue.py, sub_issue.py), where request bodies carrying issue UUIDs were passed straight into ORM lookups such as Issue.issue_objects.filter(id__in=issues) with no tenant constraint. This is CWE-639, Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key: the client controls the key (the issue UUID) and the server trusts it as an authorization token, so the object reference is honoured regardless of which workspace owns the referenced record. Because relations are legitimately allowed to span projects inside a workspace, the correct fix was to enforce workspace scope (workspace__slug=slug) rather than project scope - visible in PR 9269, which adds workspace-only filtering for relation and sub-issue handling and workspace-plus-project filtering for cycle and module issue attachment. The information leak materialises indirectly: the attacker never reads the foreign issue directly, but the newly created relation generates activity events that reveal metadata about the out-of-tenant issue. Any instance running at least two workspaces is structurally exposed; single-workspace self-hosted deployments have no cross-tenant boundary to violate.

Plane is an open-source project management tool. Prior to 1.4.0, the issue-relation endpoint accepts issue UUIDs in the request body without validating that they belong to the caller's workspace. An authenticated user can create relations linking their own issues to issues in any other workspace on the instance, leaking issue metadata through activity events. This issue is fixed in 1.4.0.
