MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires: (1) the plugin installed at a version before 3.6.14; (2) an authenticated attacker with contributor-level role or above; (3) insertion of the plugin's gallery shortcode with attacker-controlled gallery configuration values that are overridden through the shortcode and printed unsanitised into an inline script block; and critically (4) a higher-privileged user - such as an administrator previewing a pending submission - to view the post, satisfying UI:R. Notably, NO gallery ownership is required: any gallery already present on the site can be referenced. Limiting factors: the attacker must first hold a valid contributor account, and payload execution only occurs when a victim loads the post, so sites that do not accept untrusted contributor content or do not preview pending submissions face substantially lower risk. |
| Impact | This is a medium-severity stored XSS (CVSS 6.8, CWE-79) whose real-world risk is moderate and context-dependent rather than an urgent emergency. Key signals conflict: the supplied CVSS vector sets PR:H, but the description explicitly states 'contributor-level access and above', which is a LOW-privilege WordPress role - so the real privilege barrier is PR:L, not PR:H; this discrepancy should be verified and tends to make exploitation slightly EASIER than the raw vector implies. Exploitation also depends on UI:R: a higher-privileged user (e.g. an administrator) must view or preview the attacker's post, which is a realistic workflow on multi-author sites that use the contributor→pending-review model. No EPSS score was provided, the CVE is NOT on CISA KEV, and no public exploit code is indicated, so there is no evidence of active exploitation. Net: a credible, patch-this-on-the-next-cycle issue for sites that accept untrusted contributor content, but not a drop-everything internet-wide threat, since it requires an authenticated foothold plus a privileged victim action. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | On a multi-author WordPress site, an attacker registers or obtains a contributor account and creates a pending post containing the plugin's gallery shortcode with malicious JavaScript in overridable gallery configuration values, referencing any gallery that already exists. When an editor or administrator previews the pending submission, the injected script executes in their authenticated browser session, enabling admin session/cookie theft or creation of a rogue administrator. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, and the attack is network-based but low-complexity (AV:N/AC:L). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026
Stored cross-site scripting in the WordPress plugin Image Photo Gallery Final Tiles Grid (versions before 3.6.14) lets an authenticated attacker with contributor-level access or above inject arbitrary JavaScript that runs in the browser session of anyone viewing the affected post. The flaw arises because several gallery configuration values can be overridden through the plugin's gallery shortcode and are printed unsanitised into an inline script block; because no gallery ownership is required, any gallery already present on the site can be referenced, and an administrator previewing a pending contributor submission is the most likely victim. Exploitation requires the victim to load the crafted post (UI:R), there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and a vendor-released patch in version 3.6.14 is available.
RemediationAI
The primary fix is to update the Image Photo Gallery Final Tiles Grid plugin to version 3.6.14 or later, which is the vendor-released patched version that sanitises the shortcode-overridable gallery configuration values before they are emitted into the inline script block - this is the only complete remediation and should be applied immediately; the advisory is available at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/d5ba5fe5-aec0-4df3-b990-775358c3e80a/. If the plugin cannot be updated right away, compensating controls include restricting who can create or submit posts containing the gallery shortcode (for example removing or tightly vetting contributor accounts and disabling front-end/guest submissions), since the attack requires an authenticated contributor-or-higher account; disabling or disabling-by-policy the preview of pending submissions so that administrators do not render untrusted contributor content in an authenticated session (trade-off: slows editorial review workflows); and temporarily deactivating the plugin on sites where contributor-generated galleries are not needed (trade-off: loss of gallery functionality). A web application firewall rule or Content Security Policy that blocks inline scripts can reduce exploitability but is easily bypassed or breaks legitimate plugin rendering and should be treated only as a stopgap, not a substitute for the 3.6.14 upgrade.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation / Cross-Site Scripting) in a WordPress plugin that renders image galleries stored as custom content and exposed through a shortcode. Gallery configuration values that are normally persisted as gallery settings can be overridden at render time via shortcode attributes; the plugin's rendering code passes these overridden values into an inline JavaScript block without escaping or sanitising them for the script context, so an attacker who can author a post containing the shortcode controls the generated JavaScript. Since the payload is persisted with the post, this is a stored (persistent) XSS. The unsanitised output executes in the origin of the site, and when a higher-privileged user - for example an administrator reviewing a pending submission - opens the post, the injected script runs with that user's session privileges, which is why the effective scope is changed (S:C) relative to the affected component and why impact to confidentiality and integrity is high. Independent assessment reproduces the plugin's precondition chain: plugin installed below 3.6.14, an authenticated contributor-or-higher account, a crafted shortcode referencing any existing gallery, and a privileged viewer. Per the CPE/version data, the affected software family is the WordPress plugin Image Photo Gallery Final Tiles Grid, with EUVD listing affected versions as '0 <3.6.14'.

Description requires only contributor access so PR:L (not PR:H); a privileged user must view the post (UI:R); the XSS executes across into an admin session so S:C; no direct availability impact so A:N.

4DescriptionCVE.org
The Image Photo Gallery Final Tiles Grid WordPress plugin before 3.6.14 does not sanitise several gallery configuration values that can be overridden through its gallery shortcode before printing them into an inline script block, allowing users with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary JavaScript that executes in the session of anyone viewing the post, including an administrator previewing a pending submission. No gallery ownership is required: any gallery that already exists on the site can be referenced.
