Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires sending a crafted request to the 1Panel authentication endpoint /api/login with the client-controlled boolean field ignoreCaptcha set to true; the pre-patch server trusted this value directly (if !req.IgnoreCaptcha) with no server-side validation, session binding, or privilege check, so CAPTCHA is skipped against default configurations of 1Panel versions 2.0.13 and below. No authentication, MFA, trusted device, IP reputation check, or prior session is needed, and the advisory notes no rate limiting exists. The key LIMITING factor is that the bypass alone grants nothing - it only disables anti-automation, so successful account takeover still depends on the attacker possessing or brute-forcing valid credentials; strong/unique admin passwords and non-exposure of the panel to untrusted networks substantially reduce realistic risk.

Impact

The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N) correctly captures a trivially reachable, network-based, unauthenticated flaw: any client can send ignoreCaptcha: true to the /api/login endpoint and skip CAPTCHA entirely, with no complexity or interaction barriers. However, the base score of 7.5 is driven by a C:H rating that is questionable - a CAPTCHA bypass does not itself disclose confidential data; it only removes an anti-automation control and thereby enables credential brute-forcing toward account takeover. The real-world impact is therefore secondary and conditional on an attacker also guessing or cracking valid credentials, so the effective risk is lower than the 'High' label implies. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public POC was provided in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation; the confirmed exploit primitive is nonetheless simple and well-documented in the GitHub advisory and patch diff. Net assessment: a legitimate security-control weakness worth patching promptly on internet-exposed instances, but not an immediate drop-everything emergency absent weak/default credentials or exposure at scale. Note the signal conflict: NVD rates C:H while the described impact (bypassing an anti-brute-force control) argues for a lower direct confidentiality impact - verify severity expectations against your own deployment.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker locates an internet-exposed 1Panel login page (≤2.0.13) and sends login POST requests to /api/login with the JSON field ignoreCaptcha set to true, causing the server to skip CAPTCHA validation. With the anti-automation control disabled and no rate limiting present, the attacker scripts high-volume credential guessing against the admin account, moving toward account takeover. No public exploit code was identified, but the one-line parameter abuse is fully described in the GHSA advisory.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026

CAPTCHA verification in 1Panel 2.0.13 and earlier can be disabled at will by any unauthenticated network client, because the /api/login endpoint trusted a client-supplied boolean (ignoreCaptcha) to decide whether the CAPTCHA check ran. The assessed vector is CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N - trivially reachable and unauthenticated, but limited in impact because bypassing the CAPTCHA alone grants nothing; account takeover still requires the attacker to already hold or successfully guess valid credentials, and the vendor raised the published score to 7.5. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and there is no CISA KEV listing, so the realistic risk is concentrated on internet-exposed panels with weak, reused, or guessable administrator passwords. Fixed in 1Panel 2.0.14.

RemediationAI

Upgrade to 1Panel 2.0.14, which is the vendor-released fixed version and is available from the release page at https://github.com/1Panel-dev/1Panel/releases/tag/v2.0.14; the specific upstream change is commit ac43f00273be745f8d04b90b6e2b9c1a40ef7bca, and the security advisory is https://github.com/1Panel-dev/1Panel/security/advisories/GHSA-qmg5-v42x-qqhq. Until patching is possible, the highest-value compensating control is to remove the panel from untrusted networks - bind the service to localhost or place it behind a reverse proxy/VPN with an IP allowlist, since the vulnerability is only meaningful to a remote client that can reach /api/login; the trade-off is loss of legitimate remote administrative access. Because the bypass merely removes anti-automation, harden the credentials that the bypass would otherwise help brute-force: enforce a long, unique administrator password (and MFA where supported by the deployment), since a non-guessable password makes the CAPTCHA skip worthless to an attacker. Additionally, front the login endpoint with an external rate limiter, fail2ban rule, or WAF that blocks or throttles repeated POSTs to /api/login; a WAF can also strip or reject request bodies containing ignoreCaptcha for affected versions - the trade-off being that aggressive throttling can lock out legitimate administrators, and the old UI may still send this field, so test before enforcing. Note that no server-side patch-equivalent for the pre-2.0.14 IP tracking logic exists, so network restriction plus credential strength are the practical interim mitigations.

Technical ContextAI · show details

1Panel is an open-source Go/Gin web control panel for Linux servers, published by fit2cloud (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:fit2cloud:1panel). The flaw is classified CWE-290 (Authentication Bypass by Spoofing): the login DTO in core/app/dto/auth.go declared an IgnoreCaptcha bool field bound directly from the JSON request body, and the Login handler in core/app/api/v2/auth.go gated CAPTCHA verification on it with if !req.IgnoreCaptcha { captcha.VerifyCode(...) }. With no server-side validation, session binding, privilege check, MFA requirement, trusted-device check, IP reputation lookup, or rate limiting behind it, CAPTCHA became entirely client-controlled, undermining the anti-automation control that login endpoints depend on. The upstream fix (commit ac43f00273be745f8d04b90b6e2b9c1a40ef7bca) removes the client-controlled field from the request DTO and introduces a server-side IPTracker in core/init/auth/ip_tracker.go, a mutex-guarded map of per-IP records (MaxIPCount 100, ExpireDuration 30 minutes) that is set when authentication fails (SetNeedCaptcha) and cleared on success; the login response and GetLoginSetting now expose a server-computed needCaptcha value (using common.GetRealClientIP) instead of a client assertion. In other words, CAPTCHA requirement changed from a client-declared boolean to server-side, per-source-IP state.

DescriptionCVE.org

1Panel is an open-source, web-based control panel for Linux server management. Versions 2.0.13 and below allow an unauthenticated attacker to disable CAPTCHA verification by abusing a client-controlled parameter. Because the server previously trusted this value without proper validation, CAPTCHA protections can be bypassed, enabling automated login attempts and significantly increasing the risk of account takeover (ATO). This issue is fixed in version 2.0.14.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

1Panel server management panels running version 2.0.13 or earlier allow any unauthenticated network client to switch off the login CAPTCHA, removing a key layer of brute-force protection on a tool that controls production infrastructure. This does not by itself grant access, but it lowers the cost of credential guessing against internet-exposed admin consoles, so the organizations most at risk are those with publicly reachable panels protected by weak, reused, or guessable administrator passwords. Leadership should treat this as a manageable but time-sensitive exposure: the fix is a simple version upgrade, and the residual risk is dominated by password hygiene and panel exposure rather than by the flaw itself.
