| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated session on a Wekan instance (version ≤18.15) as a board member - and per the vendor description potentially any authenticated user - against a card that uses the voting (vote.positive/vote.negative) or planning-poker feature. The concrete prerequisite is the pre-patch client behavior in cardDetails.js, where setVote/setPoker wrote card vote fields directly from the client with no server-side ownership check, letting the caller substitute arbitrary userIds. Limiting factors that reduce realistic risk: exploitation requires valid authentication and (normally) board membership, impact is confined to vote/poker data integrity with no confidentiality or availability effect, and the issue is fully remediated in 18.16 which routes these actions through server methods enforcing that only the caller's own userId is modified. |
| Impact | This is a medium-severity authorization flaw (NVD CVSS 6.5, vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N) that, on balance of all signals, is a LOW real-world priority rather than an urgent one. The CVSS vector confirms network-reachable, low-complexity, authenticated (PR:L) exploitation with no user interaction, but the impact is scoped entirely to integrity (C:N/A:N) of a narrow feature - card voting/planning-poker data. No EPSS score was provided in the input, there is no CISA KEV listing, and no public proof-of-concept is referenced, so exploitation probability signals are absent or neutral rather than elevated. I assess NVD's I:H rating as overstated: the confirmed commit (0a1a075f) shows the flaw only permits forging entries in vote.positive/vote.negative (and analogous poker buckets), which is a limited integrity impact on voting results, not system- or data-wide integrity - I would rate this I:L (see assessed vectors). No SSVC decision data was supplied. In short, this is a genuine but low-consequence authorization/business-logic bug requiring authenticated access; it warrants routine patching to 18.16 rather than emergency response. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated Wekan user who is a member of a board (and per the description potentially any authenticated user) crafts a card-update operation that directly writes other users' userIds into a card's vote.positive or vote.negative arrays, fabricating or removing votes they are not entitled to cast. Because the pre-18.16 client wrote vote/poker fields directly without server-side authorization, the attacker can skew vote tallies and planning-poker estimations to misrepresent team consensus. No public exploit is identified at time of analysis, and the low attack complexity (AC:L) means the manipulation requires no special timing or conditions once authenticated. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026
An authorization flaw in Wekan through version 18.15 allows an authenticated board member - and per the vendor description potentially any authenticated user - to forge votes on a card by injecting or removing arbitrary user IDs into the vote.positive and vote.negative arrays, since the pre-patch client code wrote these fields directly from the browser with no server-side ownership check. The impact is limited to integrity of voting and planning-poker data; there is no confidentiality or availability effect, and the CVSS vector (PR:L) confirms an authenticated attacker is required. Exploitation is fully remediated in Wekan 18.16, which routes vote and poker actions through server methods that only permit modification of the caller's own userId; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to Wekan 18.16, which is the vendor-released fix: it disables direct client writes to card vote and poker fields and funnels all voting and planning-poker actions through server methods that enforce authentication, board membership (or an explicit per-card non-member flag), and modification of the caller's own userId only (commit 0a1a075f3153e71d9a858576f1c68d2925230d9c, changelog https://github.com/wekan/wekan/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md#v816-2025-11-02-wekan--release, advisory https://wekan.fi/hall-of-fame/spacebleed/). If immediate upgrade is not possible, compensating controls include disabling the card voting and planning-poker features for untrusted boards (side effect: loss of estimation workflow), tightening board membership so only fully vetted users can join boards that use voting (side effect: administrative overhead and reduced collaboration), and auditing existing cards for anomalous entries in vote.positive/vote.negative that do not correspond to legitimate participants (side effect: detection only, not prevention). No vendor-released patch beyond 18.16 was identified, and because the underlying weakness is a missing server-side ownership check rather than a memory or parsing bug, network filtering or WAF rules are not effective mitigations.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Wekan is a Meteor/Blaze-based open-source kanban board application. The vulnerability class is CWE-285 (Improper Authorization): the card detail component (client/components/cards/cardDetails.js) called client-side helpers such as setVote(userId, newState), setPoker(...), setVoteQuestion, setVoteEnd and unsetVote that wrote card vote/poker fields straight from the client. Because Meteor allows client-originated collection updates when the server does not deny them, the caller could supply an arbitrary userId rather than their own, so the server never verified that the modification involved only the requesting user's identity. The upstream fix (commit 0a1a075f3153e71d9a858576f1c68d2925230d9c) blocks direct client updates to the card vote and poker fields and replaces them with server methods - cards.vote, cards.pokerVote, cards.setVoteQuestion, cards.setVoteEnd, cards.setPokerEnd, cards.replayPoker, cards.setPokerEstimation and related handlers - that enforce authentication plus board membership (or an explicit per-card flag allowing non-members) and that only add or remove the caller's own userId in vote.positive/vote.negative or in the poker estimation bucket. The same commit documents this integrity model in SECURITY.md. Affected CPE data identifies the Wekan project package across all versions prior to the fixed release.

Network-reachable and low-complexity, but requires an authenticated board member (PR:L) and only forges voting data, so integrity is limited (I:L) with no confidentiality or availability impact.

DescriptionNVD
An issue was discovered in Wekan The Open Source kanban board system up to version 18.15, fixed in 18.16. Authorization flaw in card update handling allows board members (and potentially other authenticated users) to add/remove arbitrary user IDs in vote.positive / vote.negative arrays, enabling vote forgery and unauthorized voting.
