MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the attacker to already possess working GLPI API access (a valid API token / authenticated API session) - the description explicitly states 'an unauthorized user with an API access.' The specific weakness is that knowledge base (KnowbaseItem) search/read queries via the API did not apply visibility restrictions, so the API path returns entries regardless of per-user/group/profile/entity permissions. Limiting factors: the attacker must hold valid API credentials (consistent with PR:L - this is not pre-authentication), the impact is confined to reading knowledge base content (no write/modify, no DoS), and only GLPI deployments exposing API access in the 9.1.0-10.0.20 range are affected; upgrading to 10.0.21 removes the exposure. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but modest-severity information-disclosure issue, not a high-priority emergency. The CVSS vector (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N, base 4.3 MEDIUM) is internally consistent with the description: AV:N and PR:L reflect that an attacker needs valid API access (so authenticated, per PR:L) but can then read knowledge base entries they should not see, with only low confidentiality impact (C:L) and no integrity or availability impact. The signals broadly agree that this is low real-world urgency: EPSS is 0.22% (11th percentile), indicating low predicted exploitation likelihood; there is NO CISA KEV listing and NO public exploit code identified, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. No SSVC decision was provided in the input. The one notable discrepancy is the 'Authentication Bypass' tag: the description and CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) describe an authorization/access-control failure by an already-authenticated API user, NOT a bypass of authentication itself - verify tagging rather than treating this as a pre-auth bypass. Net: a real, confirmed-and-patched authorization flaw worth scheduling for remediation, but not a drop-everything priority. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged user who holds a valid GLPI API token issues knowledge base search/read queries through the REST API and receives all knowledge base entries, including those whose visibility should be restricted to specific users, groups, profiles, or entities. No public exploit code is known, but the flaw is trivially reachable (AC:L) once API access is held, as confirmed by the patch adding visibility restrictions to KnowbaseItem searches. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 13, 2026
GLPI versions 9.1.0 through 10.0.20 fail to apply knowledge base visibility restrictions on search and read operations, allowing an API caller to retrieve knowledge base entries that their user, group, profile, or entity permissions should not expose. Exploitation requires valid API access credentials (PR:L in the assessed vector), and the impact is limited to unauthorized read of knowledge base content with no write, modification, or denial-of-service effect. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV; EPSS is very low at 0.22% (11th percentile), and a vendor patch is available in version 10.0.21.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to GLPI 10.0.21, which is the vendor-released fix version and contains the patch commit a3d5cc4a63ae592c0b5592ebe6d562164904dab3 adding KnowbaseItem visibility restrictions to Search.php; details are in the GitHub advisory https://github.com/glpi-project/glpi/security/advisories/GHSA-62p9-prpq-j62q. If immediate upgrade is not feasible, restrict which accounts and profiles are permitted to hold API tokens, rotate and audit API credentials, and limit API exposure to trusted networks, since exploitation depends on the attacker already possessing valid API access; the trade-off is reduced automation/integration capability for legitimate API consumers and additional administrative overhead in token lifecycle management. Note that only the confidentiality of knowledge base content is at risk, so these compensating controls are proportionate until the upgrade can be scheduled.

Technical ContextAI · show details
GLPI is a PHP-based IT asset and service management platform, and the affected component is its knowledge base module (KnowbaseItem) queried through the search subsystem. The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): the default search query builder in src/Search.php did not register a case for the KnowbaseItem item type in its addDefaultWhere and addDefaultJoin routines, so visibility scoping provided by KnowbaseItem::addVisibilityRestrict() and KnowbaseItem::addVisibilityJoins() was never appended to the SQL generated for knowledge base searches. The vendor commit (a3d5cc4a63ae592c0b5592ebe6d562164904dab3) adds those two cases and introduces a functional test (testVisibilityRestrictionsInSearch) that verifies a technician user cannot see a knowledge base entry until an explicit KnowbaseItem_User association is created. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:glpi-project:glpi:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms the GLPI product line is the target, and the CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N reflects remotely reachable, low-privilege, confidentiality-only exposure.

API access is required so PR:L (not PR:N); network-reachable API with no user interaction gives AV:N/AC:L/UI:N; only read exposure of KB content, hence C:L, I:N, A:N.

DescriptionNVD
GLPI is a free asset and IT management software package. Starting in version 9.1.0 and prior to version 10.0.21, an unauthorized user with an API access can read all knowledge base entries. Users should upgrade to 10.0.21 to receive a patch.
