MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation targets the GET /WeGIA/html/pessoa/editar_info_pessoal.php endpoint via the sql parameter, which in versions prior to 3.5.1 is reflected unsanitized into the response (the pre-patch code used extract($_REQUEST) and echo(json_encode($_GET)) and lacked an exit() after the unauthenticated redirect). A victim must open the attacker-crafted link in a browser for the injected script to execute, so social-engineering delivery and user interaction are the primary limiting factors; impact is confined to client-side script execution in the WeGIA web context with no server-side confidentiality or availability impact. Fixed in WeGIA 3.5.1. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-risk reflected XSS. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) with a 6.9 base score only scores SI:L (subsequent-system integrity low) and no confidentiality/availability impact, which correctly frames this as script injection in a victim's browser rather than server compromise. Note the vendor vector lists UI:N, which is unusual for a reflected XSS that normally requires a victim to click a crafted link - the source evidence explains it: the old editar_info_pessoal.php echoed json_encode($_GET) and the unauthenticated-redirect path lacked an exit(), so the reflection fired even without a valid session (hence PR:N is defensible, but realistic exploitation still needs victim interaction, so I assess UI:R/UI:A). Exploitation signals are modest: EPSS is 0.29% (20th percentile) indicating low predicted exploitation volume, there is NO CISA KEV listing, but publicly available exploit code exists via the GitHub Security Advisory. Taken together this is a confirmed, patchable, low-to-moderate priority issue - a real flaw with a public PoC but no evidence of active or widespread exploitation, and impact bounded to client-side script execution. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a URL such as GET /WeGIA/html/pessoa/editar_info_pessoal.php?sql=<script>...</script> and delivers it to a WeGIA user (e.g., an institution staff member) via email or chat. When the victim opens the link, the unsanitized sql parameter is reflected into the response and executes in their browser, allowing session/cookie theft or actions in the WeGIA context. A public exploit exists in the GHSA advisory, lowering the skill required. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 01, 2026
Reflected cross-site scripting in WeGIA lets remote, unauthenticated attackers execute arbitrary JavaScript in a victim's browser by supplying a crafted value to the sql parameter of the editar_info_pessoal.php endpoint, and all versions before 3.5.1 are affected. Successful exploitation requires the victim to open an attacker-crafted link, so impact is confined to client-side script execution within the WeGIA origin rather than server-side compromise, matching the assessed vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. Publicly available exploit code exists, but EPSS is only 0.29 percent (20th percentile) and there is no confirmed active exploitation (no CISA KEV listing); the vendor-released patch is WeGIA 3.5.1.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to WeGIA 3.5.1 (release tag https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/releases/tag/3.5.1), which contains commit e41395fe6a7b4f428b1797a8d5b52e0e3dbbb3d9 that eliminates extract($_REQUEST), removes the raw echo(json_encode($_GET)) reflection, and adds exit() after the unauthenticated redirect. If immediate upgrade is not possible, block or restrict access to /WeGIA/html/pessoa/editar_info_pessoal.php at the reverse proxy or web server, accepting that this disables the personal-info editing workflow for legitimate users; alternatively deploy a WAF or input-filtering rule that rejects requests where the sql parameter contains HTML/script markup, understanding that filter bypasses are common and this is only a stopgap. Because this class of flaw recurs in PHP front controllers that reflect request data, administrators should also disable PHP display_errors in production so that reflected error output cannot be used as an injection or information-disclosure vector, and should treat the pre-patch unauthenticated session handling as a defense-in-depth concern until the 3.5.1 session_regenerate_id behavior is in place. Consult the vendor advisory at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/security/advisories/GHSA-wqjv-fhc9-h7hm for the authoritative fix details.

Technical ContextAI · show details
WeGIA is an open-source PHP web application (Web Manager for Institutions) aimed at Portuguese-language organizations, so the vulnerable component is a PHP script rather than a compiled binary. The root cause is CWE-79, improper neutralization of input during web page generation, in html/pessoa/editar_info_pessoal.php. In versions prior to 3.5.1 the file called extract($_REQUEST), which promotes arbitrary request parameters into local PHP variables, and then reflected request data straight back to the client via $_GET['sql'] = $sql followed by echo(json_encode($_GET)); it also issued a header redirect for unauthenticated users without a following exit(), allowing execution to continue into the reflection path. The patched commit e41395fe6a7b4f428b1797a8d5b52e0e3dbbb3d9 removes extract($_REQUEST) and the raw $_GET echo, wraps the flow in a session_status/session_start check with session_regenerate_id, adds exit() after the unauthenticated redirect, introduces a required Util class, and routes database errors through Util::tratarException instead of echoing raw PDO exception messages. The persistence layer uses PDO prepared statements, so the sql parameter here is a reflected client-side injection sink rather than a SQL injection sink.

Network reflected XSS requires no auth (PR:N) given the pre-patch missing exit(), but needs victim to click the crafted link (UI:R); script executes in a different security scope (S:C) with limited C/I and no availability impact.

DescriptionCVE.org
WeGIA is an open source Web Manager for Institutions with a focus on Portuguese language users. Prior to version 3.5.1, a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability was identified in the editar_info_pessoal.php endpoint of the WeGIA application. This vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts in the sql parameter. The vulnerable endpoint is GET /WeGIA/html/pessoa/editar_info_pessoal.php?sql=1. This issue has been patched in version 3.5.1.
