MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires reaching /pet/profile_pet.php, which is behind an authenticated session and a specific permission check (permissao($_SESSION['id_pessoa'], 63, 7)) - consistent with PR:L - so an attacker needs a victim who is logged in and authorized for the pet module. The reflected XSS triggers because, prior to 3.5.0, the id_pet GET parameter is reflected without sanitization; the patch applies filter_input with FILTER_SANITIZE_NUMBER_INT and rejects non-numeric/invalid ids. Limiting factors: the victim must be authenticated to the WeGIA instance, must open an attacker-supplied crafted link (realistic user interaction despite the vendor's UI:N), and impact is confined to the victim's browser context (no server-side confidentiality/integrity/availability impact). |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity, low-priority reflected XSS (CWE-79) in a niche open-source product, and the signals are consistent rather than conflicting. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) and the 5.3 base score indicate network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation but requiring low-level privileges (PR:L) and producing only subsequent-system impact (SC:L/SI:L) - i.e., script execution in a victim's browser, not on the server. EPSS is low at 0.23% (13th percentile), and the vulnerability is NOT on the CISA KEV list, so there is no evidence of active exploitation. A public exploit does exist via the GitHub Security Advisory (GHSA-68mw-h9q4-j34f), but POC availability is a distinct signal from active exploitation and should not be conflated with it. One notable inconsistency: the vendor vector sets UI:N, yet a reflected XSS realistically requires a victim to open a crafted link, which normally warrants user interaction (UI:P/UI:R) - this appears to overstate ease of exploitation and should be verified. Net assessment: real but low operational priority - typical for reflected XSS in an obscure product with low EPSS and no KEV listing; prioritize patching but not as an emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a URL to /pet/profile_pet.php?id_pet= containing a malicious script in the id_pet parameter and lures an authenticated WeGIA user (one holding the pet-module permission) into opening it. Because the pre-3.5.0 code reflects id_pet without sanitization, the script executes in the victim's browser session, enabling session/cookie theft or actions in the victim's context. A public exploit is available through the GitHub Security Advisory. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026
Reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) in WeGIA versions prior to 3.5.0 lets an attacker inject arbitrary script via the id_pet parameter of /pet/profile_pet.php, causing it to execute in the browser of an authenticated victim who opens a crafted link. Reaching the vulnerable endpoint requires an active authenticated session holding the pet-module permission (permissao($_SESSION['id_pessoa'], 63, 7)), so the attacker needs a victim who is logged in and authorized - the impact is confined to that victim's browser session, with no server-side confidentiality, integrity, or availability loss. Vendor-released patch: 3.5.0; publicly available exploit code exists, but EPSS is only 0.23% (13th percentile) and there is no confirmed active exploitation, making this a moderate-severity, low-priority issue.
RemediationAI
Upgrade WeGIA to version 3.5.0 or later, which is the vendor-released fix and is documented in the security advisory at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/security/advisories/GHSA-68mw-h9q4-j34f and the commit https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/commit/176733543c9b6762bef5ddec7c9c555f76fafa1d; the change applies filter_input(INPUT_GET, 'id_pet', FILTER_SANITIZE_NUMBER_INT) and rejects non-numeric IDs. If immediate upgrade is not possible, apply compensating controls: enforce or tighten the existing permissao($_SESSION['id_pessoa'], 63, 7) authorization so only trusted staff can reach /pet/profile_pet.php (this reduces the victim pool but does not eliminate the flaw for authorized users), and add a reverse-proxy or WAF rule that rejects requests to /pet/profile_pet.php whose id_pet parameter contains anything other than digits, accepting the trade-off of blocking legitimately malformed or out-of-range IDs with an error rather than a page. Because exploitation requires the victim to click a crafted link, user awareness and link-scanning controls add limited defense; note that browser-level XSS mitigations may not block this payload once the page renders.

Technical ContextAI · show details
WeGIA is a PHP-based open-source web manager for institutions, and the flaw is a classic CWE-79 improper neutralization of input during web page generation (reflected XSS). Before 3.5.0, html/pet/profile_pet.php read the id_pet GET parameter directly and echoed it back into the page response without encoding or validation, so an attacker-supplied value such as a script payload would be reflected and executed in the victim's browser. The upstream fix (commit 176733543c9b6762bef5ddec7c9c555f76fafa1d) switches to filter_input(INPUT_GET, 'id_pet', FILTER_SANITIZE_NUMBER_INT) and rejects missing or non-numeric IDs with an HTTP 400 response, while also hardening session handling (session_status check, session_regenerate_id) and reordering the permissao() authorization call. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:wegia:wegia:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* covers all releases before the fixed version. Note that the vendor's CVSS 4.0 vector marks UI:N, whereas the independent assessment scores CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, reflecting that a victim must actually open the crafted link for the script to run.

Endpoint sits behind a session and permission check so PR:L; reflected XSS needs the victim to open a crafted link so UI:R; script runs in the browser so S:C with limited C/I and no A.

DescriptionCVE.org
WeGIA is an open source Web Manager for Institutions with a focus on Portuguese language users. Prior to 3.5.0, a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was identified in the /pet/profile_pet.php?id_pet= endpoint of the WeGIA application. This vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts in the id_pet parameter. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.5.0.
